(AP Photo\/Rich Pedroncelli)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN NEWSROOM<br \/>UPDATED 2:19 PM PT \u2013 Thursday, May 26, 2022<\/h5>\n<p>California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) made a vow to enact more gun control measures in response to the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas<\/p>\n<p>During a press conference on Wednesday, Newsom said he was looking to fast track 12 gun control bills that are currently working through the legislature. The governor pledged that he would sign those bills at the end of next month.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cCalifornia leads this national conversation,\u201d Newsom stated. \u201cWhen California moves other states move in the same direction.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Every day of inaction is another day kids die from guns.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenToniAtkins?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenToniAtkins<\/a> &#038; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Rendon63rd?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Rendon63rd<\/a>, we\u2019re fast tracking bills to protect people from gun violence.<\/p>\n<p>We will enforce &#038; defend our laws &#038; we will pass stronger ones.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing is more important than protecting our communities. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GE0X6OjUsA\">pic.twitter.com\/GE0X6OjUsA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Office of the Governor of California (@CAgovernor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAgovernor\/status\/1529565026058641410?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 25, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Officials vocalized that Newsom could expedite a bill modeled after a Texas abortion law, allowing private citizens to sue gun manufacturers or distributors over potential incidents.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cCalifornia will not stand by as kids across the country are gunned down,\u201d the governor declared. \u201cGuns are now the leading cause of death for kids in America. While the US Senate stands idly by and activist federal judges strike down commonsense gun laws across our nation, California will act with the urgency this crisis demands. The Second Amendment is not a suicide pact.
