The emails were found during a separate investigation by the league into the then-Washington Redskins over allegations of workplace misconduct, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33983514\/judge-denies-nfl-motions-dismiss-jon-gruden-lawsuit-move-arbitration?platform=amp\">ESPN.com<\/a> reported in a piece published Thursday.\u00a0This led to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jon-gruden-resigns-as-raiders-head-coach-after-additional-emails-emerge\">Gruden resigning<\/a> shortly after the start of the 2021 season.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Nancy L. Allf refused the league\u2019s request to dismiss the case outright and denied the NFL\u2019s motion to compel arbitration. Now Gruden\u2019s suit will go to trial unless a settlement is reached, the outlet noted.\u00a0Following the decision, the NFL issued a statement that it planned to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe Coach Gruden\u2019s claims should have been compelled to arbitration, and we will file an appeal of the Court\u2019s determination,\u201d the statement from the league read. \u201cThe Court\u2019s denial of our motion to dismiss is not a determination on the merits of Coach Gruden\u2019s lawsuit, which, as we have said from the outset, lacks a basis in law and fact and proceeds from a false premise \u2014 neither the NFL nor the Commissioner leaked Coach Gruden\u2019s offensive emails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gruden, who was present in the Nevada courtroom when the judge\u2019s decision was announced, said he would \u201clet the process take care of itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just going to let the process take care of itself,\u201d Gruden shared while leaving the courtroom. \u201cIt\u2019s good to be back in Vegas. I\u2019m going to see some friends tonight. Go Raiders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In November, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jon-gruden-sues-nfl-roger-goodell\">Gruden filed the suit<\/a> over emails that contained racially insensitive language, as well as use of a gay slur and misogynistic language\u00a0that was \u201cnot fit to be repeated in a public courtroom,\u201d per NFL\u2019s counsel Kannon Shanmugam.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the former coach\u2019s attorney Adam Hosmer-Henner claimed that the league leaked emails to \u201charm Gruden\u2019s reputation and force him out of his job,\u201d because the NFL was in possession of them months before the season started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no explanation or justification for why Gruden\u2019s emails were the only ones made public out of the 650,000 emails collected \u2026 or for why the emails were held for months before being released in the middle of the Raiders\u2019 season,\u201d Hosmer-Henner\u2019s statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Gruden worked for ESPN as an analyst on \u201cMonday Night Football\u201d from 2009 to 2017, and it is from his time with the sports network that the emails stem.<\/p>\n<p>He was the coach of the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 before leaving to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008 where he lead them to the Super Bowl and they beat the Raiders in SB XXXVII.
