Cerrillo said that he rushed forward after he saw Miah being carried to a hospital-bound bus with several bullet fragments in her side. He told The Washington Post that he had been able to briefly speak with her through the window before the bus pulled away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018I panicked,\u2019 Cerrillo told the Washington Post, saying his daughter detailed how she had watched as her teacher, Eva Mireles, was shot by the gunman while attempting to phone the police,\u201d The Houston Chronicle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/Uvalde-Texas-school-shooting-shooter-timeline-17200236.php\">reported<\/a>. \u201cHis daughter Miah told Cerrillo she quickly grabbed the phone and called 911, and then hid from the shooter by lying down on top of one of her classmates, who had been shot and was bleeding on the ground. Her classmate was breathing but expired before help arrived, according to Cerrillo\u2019s account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe figured Uvalde was safe,\u201d Cerrillo added during his interview with the Washington Post. \u201cNow we know it\u2019s not safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another young student <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/its-time-to-die-9-year-old-survivor-of-texas-school-shooting-recalls-horror\/\">described the moment<\/a> the shooter entered the classroom, saying, \u201cHe shot the next person\u2019s door.\u00a0We have a door in the middle. He opened it. He came in and he crouched a little bit and he said, he said,\u00a0\u2018It\u2019s time to die.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That student said that he then hid under a table with several other students, waiting for help to arrive. \u201cWhen I heard the shooting through the door, I told my friend to hide under something so he won\u2019t find us,\u201d \u00a0he said. \u201cI was hiding hard. And I was telling my friend to not talk because he is going to hear us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the cops came, the cop said: \u2018Yell if you need help!\u2019 And one of the persons in my class said \u2018Help!\u2019 The [shooter] overheard and he came in and shot her,\u201d the student added.<\/p>\n<p>Nineteen students and two adults were killed when the shooter barricaded himself inside that classroom.
