The shooter also shot his own grandmother before heading to the school, using a rifle he legally purchased shortly after his 18th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the program we voted on when I was in the Senate, I think it was 2013, we put together a guardianship program and a marshal program where teachers can be trained to defend the school,\u201d Paxton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/ken-paxton-uvalde-shootings-schools\/2022\/05\/26\/id\/1071661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general added \u201cthere has not been a single school that has had an attack like this. I think it is a significant deterrent for sure to walk into a school and have no idea who has a gun and who doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to programs to arm teachers and school personnel, Paxton said that social media companies must do more to cooperate with law enforcement regarding red flags that may point to potential violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey like to control what they do and they have not been open and forthright in sharing information like this with authorities,\u201d Paxton claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a shame because they could voluntarily do it and it\u2019s unfortunate that Congress is having to try to force them to do it,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>During a separate interview with Fox News, Paxton argued that the school shooter would not have followed a single gun law. Greg Abbott\u2019s press conference on Wednesday to address the Uvalde shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday is about supporting these families, not about fighting each other,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhallcom\/status\/1529543914943877120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton visited Uvalde on Wednesday to help facilitate the set up of a location for the Crime Victims\u2019 Compensation Program \u201cto help the families of this shooting,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/ag-paxton-sets-crime-victim-services-location-uvalde-victims-robb-elementary-shooting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> from his office.
