Sinema, Sen. Murphy and others who are interested in trying to get an outcome that\u2019s directly related to the problem. John Cornyn\u2019s interest in red-flag legislation. Cornyn, a long-time McConnell ally, served as GOP Whip from 2015-2019 and could likely convince enough Republicans to support a bill to overcome a filibuster.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">McConnell on what he told Cornyn: \u201cI\u2019ve encouraged him to talk to Sen. The shooter in Uvalde, Texas repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/25\/uvalde-texas-school-shooter-social-media-messages-guns\/\">posted<\/a> pictures of guns on social media, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2022\/05\/25\/uvalde-texas-school-shooting-gunman\/\">cut<\/a> his face with knives. Police were dispatched to his house on several occasions. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/26\/texas-gunman-uvalde-salvador-ramos\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Texas Gunman Was In The Classroom For Half An Hour Before Law Enforcement Stormed In. Why?)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several Republican senators have previously expressed interest in red-flag laws, which have been passed in 19 states and Washington, D.C., <a href=\"https:\/\/giffords.org\/lawcenter\/gun-laws\/policy-areas\/who-can-have-a-gun\/extreme-risk-protection-orders\/\">according<\/a> to the left-wing Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/292\/cosponsors?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22%5C%22red+flag%5C%22+%5C%22extreme+risk+protection%5C%22+or%22%7D&#038;r=2&#038;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">introduced<\/a> a bipartisan red-flag law with Democratic Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed and Independent Maine Sen. Angus King in 2021, although it has not passed out of committee. Scott signed similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2019\/08\/09\/im-gun-owner-nra-member-i-support-red-flag-laws-help-stop-mass-shootings\/\">legislation<\/a> as Governor of Florida in 2018 in the aftermath of the Parkland shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is the kind of law that could have made a difference in this case, since \u2026 it appears that he suffered from mental illness,\u201d Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/red-flag-laws-senate-congress-guns-rcna30544\">said<\/a> Wednesday of red-flag laws. \u201cIt\u2019s my understanding that he bought his weapon legally and passed a background check, so I really think our focus should be on looking at what some states have done, red flag or yellow flag laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/08\/05\/graham-gun-confiscation-red-flag\/\">negotiated<\/a> a red-flag law in 2019 in the aftermath of shootings in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/08\/04\/dayton-ohio-shooting\/\">Dayton, Ohio<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/08\/05\/el-paso-death-toll-dayton-mass-shootings\/\">El Paso, Texas<\/a>, although it failed to clear a filibuster.
