I\u2019ve got three daughters myself. These are young kids that are impressionable. And we\u2019re not going to let them feel uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Stitt signed a bill into law requiring students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their biological sex listed on their birth certificate.<\/p>\n<p>SB 615 <a href=\"http:\/\/webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us\/cf_pdf\/2021-22%20ENR\/SB\/SB615%20ENR.PDF\">orders that schools<\/a> \u201crequire certain restrooms or changing areas to be used by individuals based on their sex\u201d in order to \u201censure privacy and safety\u201d of public school and public charter school students in pre-K to 12th grade.<\/p>\n<p>The bill orders that the state funding of non-compliant school districts or charter schools be decreased and notes that parents may sue non-compliant schools. It immediately went into effect since it was passed with an emergency clause. Students who are unwilling to use the bathroom that aligns with their biological sex may use \u201ca single-occupancy restroom or changing room\u201d designated by the school.<\/p>\n<p>Amid heavy backlash from abortion supporters, the Oklahoma governor also signed the strictest abortion bill in the country into law on Wednesday. The bill, which went into effect immediately, prohibits all abortions in the state.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BREAKING?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BREAKING<\/a>: Oklahoma just became the only state in the U.S. to totally ban abortion while <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RoevWade?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RoevWade<\/a> still stands. The Center &#038; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PPFA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PPFA<\/a> are suing the state of Oklahoma on behalf of abortion providers and advocates to stop this cruel ban and restore abortion access in the state. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IOxefOqmfV\">pic.twitter.com\/IOxefOqmfV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Center for Reproductive Rights (@ReproRights) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReproRights\/status\/1529627029263499273?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI promised Oklahomans that as governor I would sign every piece of pro-life legislation that came across my desk and I am proud to keep that promise today,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/05\/26\/1101428347\/oklahoma-governor-signs-the-nations-strictest-abortion-ban\">said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cFrom the moment life begins at conception is when we have a responsibility as human beings to do everything we can to protect that baby\u2019s life and the life of the mother. (1\/3) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vQJdwkDJZN\">pic.twitter.com\/vQJdwkDJZN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Kevin Stitt (@GovStitt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovStitt\/status\/1529815939432292355?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stitt also signed legislation in April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oklahoman.com\/story\/news\/2022\/04\/27\/oklahoma-bans-nonbinary-birth-certificates-governor-kevin-stitt-lgbtq-gender-neutral\/7442938001\/\">banning<\/a> the state from issuing gender-neutral birth certificates, and in March,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/oklahoma-governor-signs-bill-banning-biological-males-from-womens-sports\">banning biological men<\/a> from women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<p>Across the state, Stitt told The Daily Wire, people are both grateful and supportive: \u201cPeople in rural Oklahoma, people at the cattle sale, people in the business community, people in the church, people at the supermarket, people at the school where their little girls are going into a bathroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is just craziness that people are making an issue out of this,\u201d Stitt said. \u201cThe only reason you would make an issue about this is if you\u2019re just kowtowing to a very, very small minority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young women competing on the University of Oklahoma\u2019s track team or on weightlifting, swimming, and volleyball teams around the state have thanked him for saving their scholarships, he said, saying, \u201cThanks Governor, this makes so much sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not against anybody,\u201d he insisted. \u201cWe welcome everybody to Oklahoma. But that doesn\u2019t mean you have the right to invade on our traditions or what we know is is normal practices in the state of Oklahoma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stitt is seeking reelection during a turbulent time in American politics when the GOP is <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/25\/gop-republican-study-committee-culture-war-critical-race-theory\">increasingly leaning into the culture wars<\/a>\u00a0following\u00a0Governor Glenn Youngkin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2021\/11\/04\/mcauliffe-youngkin-abortion-virginia\/\">success in the Virginia gubernatorial election.<\/a>\u00a0Many have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2021\/11\/03\/meet-the-parents-behind-youngkins-victory\/\">attributed<\/a> Youngkin\u2019s victory to his late-in-the-game embrace of cultural issues, particularly education.<\/p>\n<p>American Principles Project President Terry Schilling told The Daily Wire on Tuesday that the Oklahoma governor has internalized two \u201creally important\u201d aspects of American culture that more politicians on the right must figure out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne, our cultural elites in the so-called mainstream media and academia and Hollywood are grossly out of step with where the American people are,\u201d said Schilling, whose organization focuses on family and culture issues. \u201cAnd he is taking advantage of that and using it for his political advantages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But most importantly, Schilling said, Stitt is acknowledging that \u201ceconomy is downstream of culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you are producing dysfunctional people<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oklahoma has enacted multiple new laws in recent months that focus on hot-button culture war issues, including protecting women\u2019s sports and the unborn, and keeping biological males out of women\u2019s bathrooms and locker rooms.
