For the moment, set aside that Fauci should have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/biden-science-fire-fauci-sen-marco-rubio\">fired years ago<\/a> and has a long record of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/dr-anthony-fauci-coronavirus-marco-rubio\">misleading<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/2021\/5\/rubio-questions-fauci-on-why-he-downplayed-covid-lab-release-theory-in-2020\">politicizing<\/a> \u201cscience.\u201d He and pretty much everyone else in America\u2019s public health infrastructure pointed out that ivermectin had not been approved for treating Covid \u2014 and therefore using it \u201coff-label\u201d was dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>But these same bureaucrats take a completely different view about giving puberty-blocking drugs to children. Puberty blockers are federally approved for treating different cancers and the very early onset of puberty. They are not approved for delaying puberty in children experiencing gender dysphoria. Yet the Biden administration is <a href=\"https:\/\/opa.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-03\/gender-affirming-care-young-people-march-2022.pdf\">actively promoting<\/a> that off-label use as part of a \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d regimen.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you believe elementary school children experiencing gender dysphoria should be able to delay puberty, shouldn\u2019t you at least want to make sure the drugs are safe?<\/p>\n<p>That is the question I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=73BDAD43-C47F-4C02-A242-A64E1D610D56\">asked<\/a> Dr. Lawrence Tabak, the acting director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), last week. Where is the safety data? Where is the effectiveness data? Where is the long-term risk data? All questions the public health establishment asked about ivermectin.<\/p>\n<p>Tabak\u2019s answer? \u201cNIH funds a small number of observational studies,\u201d and over time, \u201cwe will be able to better answer the types of questions that you\u2019re posing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, there are no answers. We have absolutely no meaningful data regarding the long-term implications of giving these radical, life-altering drugs to elementary school children. We cannot possibly weigh the costs and benefits. The Food and Drug Administration is nowhere close to approving such uses. Yet the Biden administration, the corporate media, and so-called \u201cexperts\u201d are actively promoting them. It\u2019s irresponsible and dangerous.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For example, what happens to an 11-year-old girl who starts taking puberty blockers and then decides at age 16 that she wants to live as a woman? The Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/opa.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-03\/gender-affirming-care-young-people-march-2022.pdf\">claims<\/a> the effects of puberty blockers are \u201creversible.\u201d Based on Tabak\u2019s sworn testimony, that claim is misleading \u2014 at best. A major Swedish health institution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/major-swedish-hospital-bans-puberty-blocking-for-gender-dysphoria\/\">acknowledged<\/a> puberty blockers could result in \u201cextensive and irreversible adverse consequences such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, infertility, increased cancer risk, and thrombosis.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We know that the vast majority of individuals with gender dysphoria eventually lose their desire to identify with another sex. That is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.3109\/09540261.2015.1115754?journalCode=iirp20\">clinically documented<\/a>, but Democrats, including the woke public health officials who make up our scientific establishment, now claim that study is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/khn.org\/morning-breakout\/research-on-children-growing-out-of-gender-dysphoria-adds-layer-of-complexity-to-transgender-care\/\">flawed<\/a>.\u201d Of course, those same activists cannot point to a study to defend poisoning our children.<\/p>\n<p>As with Covid, it appears that for woke ideologues, \u201cfollowing the science\u201d means getting the preferred outcome regardless of the evidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We need to have a higher standard when administering life-altering drugs to children. As usual, Florida is leading the way in establishing that standard. Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridahealth.gov\/_documents\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2022\/04\/20220420-gender-dysphoria-guidance.pdf?utm_source=floridahealth.gov&#038;utm_medium=referral&#038;utm_campaign=newsroom&#038;utm_content=article&#038;url_trace_7f2r5y6=https:\/\/www.floridahealth.gov\/newsroom\/2022\/04\/20220420-gender-dysphoria-press-release.pr.html\">cited<\/a> \u201cthe lack of conclusive evidence\u201d and \u201cthe potential for long-term, irreversible effects\u201d in his memo blocking hormonal and surgical interventions for children with gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n<p>The left railed against that memo, but what Florida is doing is common sense. What is crazy is that the same people who took chocolate milk out of school lunches are promoting puberty blockers, hormone injections, and mutilative surgeries for children who are more than a decade away from having fully developed brains.<\/p>\n<p>It is time we start holding woke public health officials responsible for their dangerous advocacy.
