Obama-era guidance interpreting Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to prohibit gender-identity discrimination <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/about\/offices\/list\/ocr\/letters\/colleague-201605-title-ix-transgender.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stated<\/a> that transgender students must be allowed to use the restroom, locker room and shower facility that matches their gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, USDA and FNS are issuing this interpretation to help ensure its programs are open, accessible and help promote food and nutrition security, regardless of demographics,\u201d the announcement read.<\/p>\n<p>FNS funding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fns.usda.gov\/about-fns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supports<\/a> food security programs for the poor such as federally subsidized school lunches and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program, also known as food stamps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The USDA is interpreting the ban on sex-based discrimination in Title IX of the Education Amendments to include gender identity rather than just biological sex, according to the USDA announcement. The move is in line with Biden\u2019s executive order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/20\/executive-order-preventing-and-combating-discrimination-on-basis-of-gender-identity-or-sexual-orientation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">banning<\/a> discrimination on the basis of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/19\/taylor-silverman-red-bull-skateboard-female-athlete-transgender-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gender identity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">USDA celebrates the achievements and contributions of transgender and gender non-conforming people everywhere.
