It was about politics. That was the rise of the moral majority in 1980, bringing abortion politics into the pews of Republican-leaning churches,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Scarborough then claimed that Jesus \u201cnever once mentioned\u201d abortion in the gospels, though most religions holds that abortion is the killing of an unborn child and that an\u00a0abortion is against the fifth commandment: \u201cThou shalt not kill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, the Catholic Church, mind you, has focused on abortion a bit longer,\u201d he said. \u201cBut how disconcerting that religious leaders in that church would deny communion to faithful members of their congregation over a political issue that Jesus never once mentioned in the gospels, despite the fact that abortion was both a political and philosophical issue in ancient Greece and in Rome and when Jesus was alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MSNBC host emphasized that \u201cJesus did address most other things that touch our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe told his disciples in Matthew 25 that we would be welcomed into the kingdom of heaven if we gave water to the thirsty, fed the hungry, clothed the poor, and brought hope to the hopeless,\u201d Scarborough insisted. \u201cWe were to lead with forgiveness and love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo how distressing that a religious leader would bar from communion a congregant who spent her life in politics, focusing really on those truly disadvantaged,\u201d the host opined, before inviting Pelosi to join him in discussing San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone\u2019s instructions that she no longer receive communion.<\/p>\n<p>Scarborough did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The Catholic Church\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/archive\/ccc_css\/archive\/catechism\/p3s2c2a5.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">teaches<\/a>\u00a0that abortion is \u201ca crime against human life,\u201d \u201cconstitutes a grave offense\u201d and that a person who obtains an abortion is automatically excommunicated from the Catholic Church.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usccb.org\/issues-and-action\/faithful-citizenship\/church-teaching\/catholics-in-political-life\">the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops<\/a>\u00a0has emphasized that\u00a0Catholics in politics \u201chave an obligation in conscience to work toward correcting morally defective laws, lest they be guilty of cooperating in evil and in sinning against the common good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cordileone\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nancy-pelosi-banned-from-receiving-communion-over-her-abortion-stances\">informed Pelosi on Friday<\/a>: \u201cyou are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/251323\/here-are-two-basic-requirements-catholics-must-meet-to-receive-holy-communion\">receive Holy Communion<\/a>, which Catholics believe is the body of Jesus Christ, one must be in a state of grace, which means that an individual has recently gone to the sacrament of confession and confessed all serious or mortal sins, and one must have fasted for at least an hour.<\/p>\n<p>The Catholic News Agency\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/251323\/here-are-two-basic-requirements-catholics-must-meet-to-receive-holy-communion\">cites<\/a>\u00a0the Catechism of the Catholic Church in reporting that a mortal sin\u00a0\u201cdestroys charity in the heart of man by a grave violation of God\u2019s law; it turns man away from God.\u201d Examples of mortal sins are murder, adultery, pornography, theft, and missing mass on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In defending House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s pro-abortion stances, MSNBC\u2019s Joe Scarborough suggested Tuesday that Jesus Christ was not against abortion.
