People who took the pill either experience symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 after having tested negative.<\/p>\n<p>The agency is still recommending the pill, Paxlovid, for the treatment of\u00a0mild to moderate COVID-19 among people deemed at high risk of progressing to severe disease, claiming the rebound of symptoms may be unrelated to the pill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA brief return of symptoms may be part of the natural history of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) infection in some persons, independent of treatment with Paxlovid and regardless of vaccination status,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLimited information currently available from case reports suggests that persons treated with Paxlovid who experience COVID-19 rebound have had mild illness; there are no reports of severe disease. There is currently no evidence that additional treatment is needed with Paxlovid or other anti-SARS-CoV-2 therapies in cases where COVID-19 rebound is suspected,\u201d the CDC added.<\/p>\n<p>Pfizer did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which authorized paxlovid in late 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fda-investigating-reports-of-covid-relapses-following-use-of-pfizers-pill_4445382.html\">told The Epoch Times<\/a> earlier in May that it was investigating reports of relapses among people who took the pill.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators \u201cwill share recommendations if appropriate,\u201d an agency spokesperson said in an email.<\/p>\n<p>A number of people who received the pill have reported experiencing symptoms after appearing to recover. A handful of cases have been reported as case studies.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators noted in their evaluation of Paxlovid that several participants in Pfizer\u2019s clinical trial \u201cappeared to have a rebound\u201d in viral load five to nine days after completing their treatment courses.
