Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) and Dan Crenshaw (TX) are in Ukraine where they became the first American lawmakers to visit the reopened U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p>The politicians shared the report of their surprise visit to Ukraine on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe flag is flying once again, and it was very special for me because that\u2019s where I worked when I was in Kyiv,\u201d Fitzpatrick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/reps-crenshaw-fitzpatrick-ukraine-visit-us-embassy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He also called the embassy\u2019s reopening \u201ca very important symbolic sign for Ukrainians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Pentagon officials were reportedly considering plans to deploy members of the U.S. Special Forces to guard the nation\u2019s reopened embassy in Kyiv as Russia continues its military invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The report comes as the White House remains concerned over American diplomats in Ukraine, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pentagon-weighs-deploying-special-forces-to-guard-kyiv-embassy-11653237183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> by The Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in close touch with our colleagues at the State Department about potential security requirements now that they have resumed operations at the embassy in Kyiv,\u201d Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut no decisions have been made, and no specific proposals have been debated at senior levels of the department about the return of U.S. military members to Ukraine for that or any other purpose,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the State Department announced that it had raised the American flag at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv after moving operations three months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we are officially resuming operations at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. The Ukrainian people, with our security assistance, have defended their homeland in the face of Russia\u2019s unconscionable invasion, and, as a result, the Stars and Stripes are flying over the Embassy once again,\u201d Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/raising-the-flag-at-u-s-embassy-kyiv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand proudly with, and continue to support, the government and people of Ukraine as they defend their country from the Kremlin\u2019s brutal war of aggression,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The news also comes after the Senate passed an additional $40 billion aid package last week for Ukraine. The measure passed 89-11, with President Joe Biden signing the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) also headlined a congressional delegation to Ukraine and Poland earlier in May, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-makes-surprise-visit-to-kyiv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi is the most senior American official to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/01\/politics\/pelosi-zelensky-kyiv-ukraine-intl\/index.html\">visit<\/a>\u00a0the war-torn Eastern European nation since Russia began its invasion more than two months ago. The lawmaker said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.speaker.gov\/newsroom\/5122-4\">statement<\/a>\u00a0that the delegation had a \u201cprofound and solemn visit\u201d with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which they \u201cconveyed respect and gratitude\u201d for his leadership, as well as \u201cour admiration of the Ukrainian people for their courage in the fight against Russia\u2019s diabolical invasion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Members were proud to deliver the message that additional American support is on the way, as we work to transform President Biden\u2019s strong funding request into a legislative package,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union and more than a dozen nations have reopened embassies in Kyiv after three months of invasion as Russian President Vladimir Putin refocuses his attacks on the eastern part of Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Reps.
