His <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/18\/pennsylvania-gop-senate-mehmet-oz-david-mccormick-recount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opponent<\/a>, David McCormick, filed a lawsuit Monday in an attempt to get the counties to include all mail-in ballots, regardless of whether they lacked the handwritten date.<\/p>\n<p>McCormick, former U.S. Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs and CEO of Bridgewater Associates, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-midterm-elections-entertainment-mehmet-oz-pennsylvania-c452eef7ae3445ce6aca71ebbb9a9051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">filed the lawsuit<\/a> less than 24 hours before the deadline for counties to report their unofficial results, the AP reported. The lawsuit asks counties to adhere to a federal appeals court ruling issued May 20, which said mail-in ballots without a handwritten date must be counted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we have counted all Republican votes received on time, we will unite behind a strong GOP nominee to defeat socialist John Fetterman in the fall. (Photo by Jeff Swensen\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The RNC said it would go to court against McCormick\u2019s lawsuit, the AP reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElection laws are meant to be followed, and changing the rules when ballots are already being counted harms the integrity of our elections,\u201d Matt Raymer, the Republican National Committee\u2019s chief counsel, told the AP in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Oz, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/09\/donald-trump-endorses-mehmet-oz-pennsylvania-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a> by former President Donald Trump, had a lead of only 992 votes over McCormick as of Tuesday morning, the AP reported.
