Madison Cawthorn (R-NC).<\/p>\n<p>The press release from the Committee comes after Cawthorn was defeated in the Republican primary for the seat representing North Carolina\u2019s 11th District by Chuck Edwards, a three-term state senator and business owner.<\/p>\n<p>The investigations into Cawthorn will look into his involvement with a cryptocurrency and whether he had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee unanimously voted on May 11, 2022, to establish an Investigative Subcommittee,\u201d the Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/ethics.house.gov\/press-releases\/statement-chairman-and-ranking-member-committee-ethics-regarding-representative-64\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cPursuant to the Committee\u2019s action, the Investigative Subcommittee shall have jurisdiction to determine whether Representative Madison Cawthorn may have: improperly promoted a cryptocurrency in which he may have had an undisclosed financial interest, and engaged in an improper relationship with an individual employed on his congressional staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn appeared to respond to the investigations by claiming on Twitter that they were coming from him because he was \u201ca problem for the swamp!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow- I must still be a problem for the swamp! \ud83d\udc40,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThey\u2019re still coming after me!\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wow- I must still be a problem for the swamp! \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re still coming after me!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Madison Cawthorn (@CawthornforNC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CawthornforNC\/status\/1528838805620654080?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 23, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn had become a headache for House Republicans, especially the leadership, with his name constantly appearing in news stories that were unflattering for the party.<\/p>\n<p>Just a few of the negative stories that he\u2019s been involved in have included being detained multiple times at the airport for having a loaded gun on him, accusing his colleagues of having cocaine-fueled orgies without providing evidence, and having an embarrassing video and photographs emerge of him.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/madison-cawthorn-admits-his-claims-of-lawmaker-orgies-and-drug-use-were-exaggerated-gop-leader\">addressed<\/a> the situation after Cawthorn accused his colleagues of having cocaine-fueled orgies, saying that he no longer trusted Cawthorn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just told him<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House Committee on Ethics said in a statement on Monday that it has opened multiple investigations into outgoing Rep.
