According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/23\/americans-worried-about-the-economy-even-before-inflation-boom-fed-survey-shows.html\">CNBC<\/a>, the figure marks a significant decrease from 50% in 2019 \u2014 as well as a slight decrease from 26% in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Although the unemployment rate <a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/series\/UNRATE\">skyrocketed<\/a> from 3.5% to 14.7% between February 2020 and April 2020, lawmakers responded to COVID-19 and the lockdown-induced recession with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-covid-recession-was-the-shortest-in-us-history-but-we-spent-more-than-in-any-prior-recession\">unprecedented level of federal aid<\/a>. After unemployment rates largely recovered, <a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/series\/CPIAUCSL\">inflation<\/a> began to skyrocket beyond the Fed\u2019s typical 2% benchmark \u2014 from 1.3% in December 2020 to 7.0% in December 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the Fed\u2019s survey, \u201cthe majority of parents received additional income in 2021 through the monthly Child Tax Credit.\u201d While most higher-income parents saved the extra money, most lower-income parents spent it on \u201chousing, items for their children, or food.\u201d Indeed, inflation tends to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wharton-economist-warns-that-inflation-is-hitting-poor-americans-the-hardest\">fall most heavily upon poor families<\/a>, which tend to devote a greater share of their budgets toward necessities.<\/p>\n<p>The rise in prices since the beginning of 2021 has outpaced nominal increases in pay, producing a nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/real-wages-plummet-nearly-3-due-to-inflation\">3% decline in real wages<\/a> \u2014 stretching Americans\u2019 budgets with respect to food, gas, housing, and other staples.
