Experts say the price will likely remain around current levels throughout the summer.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gas and diesel prices are currently at record highs in the U.S., according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/19\/fuel-is-a-problem-for-business-and-consumers-why-prices-are-so-high.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>. The rapidly rising oil prices are the result of constrained refining capacity and a surge in demand following the COVID-19 pandemic, among other factors, the outlet reports.<\/p>\n<p>One Facebook post claims the price of diesel will soon skyrocket. \u201cDiesel is supposed to be 9 dollars by August, slap yourself if you voted for this,\u201d reads the post, which has garnered over 290 reactions. \u201cYou could ignore mean tweets\u2026 i can not ignore a fuel pump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The average national price of diesel is currently $5.55, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Automobile Association<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/07\/fact-check-9-dollar-gas-california-photo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Is Gas $9 A Gallon In California?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the price of diesel may increase further, there is no evidence it will reach $9 a gallon by August. Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Diesel+prices+9+a+gallon&#038;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS820US820&#038;source=lnms&#038;tbm=nws&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwily-6Yh_b3AhV0Ap0JHcrGAEwQ_AUoA3oECAEQBQ&#038;biw=1536&#038;bih=722&#038;dpr=1.25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> about such a projection. Tom Kloza, an analyst at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opisnet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oil Price Information Service<\/a> (OPIS), told Check Your Fact in an email the claim is exaggerated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is quite the hyperbolic comment,\u201d Kloza said, \u201cWe see diesel trading close to recent levels through the summer and certainly into August.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kloza\u2019s assessment is in line with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/outlooks\/steo\/data\/browser\/#\/?v=8&#038;f=M&#038;s=0&#038;start=202001&#038;end=202212&#038;linechart=DSRTUUS&#038;ctype=linechart&#038;maptype=0&#038;map=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">forecast<\/a> from the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/petroleum\/gasdiesel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Energy Information Administration<\/a> (EIA), which projects the price of diesel will peak in May before dropping to about $4.95 a gallon in August.
