It\u00a0described monkeypox, symptoms of which include fever, aches, rashes and lesions all over the body,\u00a0as a DNA virus with two manifestations, one from West Africa and one from the Congo Basin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe latter is more pathogenic and has been reported to infect humans in various parts of the world,\u201d the study said.<\/p>\n<p>Monkeypox, was discovered in 1958 among research monkeys, according to the Centers for Disease Control.\u00a0The first human case was reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 1970s, and most case since have occurred Africa. Monkeypox cases in the U.S. are extremely rare, and typically have been linked to international travel or imported animals.<\/p>\n<p>In recent days, the number of confirmed or suspected cases of monkeypox topped more than 100 over the weekend as the disease has now spread throughout Europe, North America, and Australia. As of Saturday, \u201c92 laboratory confirmed cases, and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox with investigations ongoing, have been reported to WHO from 12 Member States that are not endemic for monkeypox virus,\u201d the World Health Organization (WHO)\u00a0<a class=\"c-link\" tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/disease-outbreak-news\/item\/2022-DON385\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/disease-outbreak-news\/item\/2022-DON385\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>WHO said the current outbreak is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/monkeypox-likely-spread-sex-two-raves-europe-expert-says-rcna30055?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">likely a \u201crandom event\u201d linked to sexual behavior at two rave parties<\/a>, one in Spain and the other in Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>The Wuhan lab study said it assembled a genomic fragment of monkeypox because there have never been documented outbreaks in China.
