That is three times the number of early in-person votes cast in 2018 and higher than in 2020, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The stats come after months of claims from Democrats that the new voting legislation, which was signed into law on March 25, 2021, amounted to voter suppression.<\/p>\n<p>But Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/22\/brad-raffensperger-stacey-abrams-voter-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brad Raffensperger<\/a> said \u201cthe facts have proved me right\u201d that the law would not lead to suppression, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbrams and President Biden lied to the people of Georgia and the country for political gain. From day one, I said that Georgia\u2019s election law balanced security and access, and the facts have proved me right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patsy Reid, a 70-year-old black woman, told The Washington Post she encountered no issues at the poll despite the rhetoric she heard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had heard that they were going to try to deter us in any way possible because of the fact that we didn\u2019t go Republican on the last election, when Trump didn\u2019t win,\u201d Reid reportedly said. \u201cTo go in there and vote as easily as I did and to be treated with the respect that I knew I deserved as an American citizen \u2013 I was really thrown back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law, known as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/georgia-voting-bill-absentee-voting-id-requirement-food-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Election Integrity Act of 2021,<\/a> includes several provisions expanding voting opportunities. While the original drafts of the legislation would have scrapped all weekend voting aside from the second Saturday, changes were made mandating \u201ctwo Saturday voting days and two optional Sunday voting days\u201d prior to the general election.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation also requires three weeks of early voting and expands the hours the polls are open. The changes were made in response to opposition from racial justice groups who said the original drafts targeted black voters who traditionally participate in \u201cSouls to the Polls\u201d voter drives that take place on Sundays, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/03\/22\/977929338\/black-church-leaders-in-georgia-on-the-importance-of-souls-to-the-polls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7434607\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7434607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A member of the New Georgia Project carries informative paperwork before heading out to knock on doors as they canvas to encourage people to register to vote in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., May 12, 2022. REUTERS\/Alyssa Pointer<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The law also cracked down on \u201cline warming,\u201d which prevents individuals from handing out gifts, water or food to voters waiting in line to vote. After the legislation was passed, President Joe Biden said \u201cif you want any indication that [the law] has nothing to do with fairness, nothing to do with decency, they passed a law saying you can\u2019t provide water to people standing in line while they\u2019re waiting to vote,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/545120-georgia-law-makes-it-a-crime-to-give-water-to-people-waiting-to-vote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hil<\/a>l.<\/p>\n<p>Voters may still bring their own food and water, and poll officers can still make \u201cavailable self-service water from an unattended receptacle to an elector waiting in line to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law also requires voters to show an ID to get an absentee ballot. At least <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Voter_identification_laws_by_state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">35 other states<\/a> require voters to show or present some form of ID when voting, whether it be by mail or in person. The state already <a href=\"https:\/\/sos.ga.gov\/index.php\/elections\/georgia_voter_identification_requirements2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">had<\/a> voter ID laws in place for in-person voting. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/09\/georgia-election-law-less-than-ten-thousand-identification\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Less Than 10,000 Georgia Voters Have No Form Of ID Associated With Their Registration)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And while the controversial aspects of the legislation were removed, that didn\u2019t stop <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/17\/democrats-republicans-election-laws-jim-crow-midterms-whip-up-subversion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Democrats from saying<\/a> that the legislation amounted to \u201cJim Crow 2.0\u201d and launching an all-out assault on the law.<\/p>\n<p>After the legislation was signed into law, Biden\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/26\/jim-crow-21st-century-president-joe-biden-releases-statement-georgia-election-bill-kemp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a> it \u201cJim Crow in the 21st century\u201d in March of 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans in [Georgia] rushed through an un-American law to deny people the right to vote,\u201d Biden said. \u201cThis law, like so many others being pursued by Republicans in statehouses across the country is a blatant attack on the Constitution and good conscience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is Jim Crow in the 21st Century. It must end,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWe have a moral and Constitutional obligation to act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/11\/biden-filibuster-georgia-voting-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biden<\/a>\u00a0again called the law \u201cJim Crow 2.0,\u201d in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/01\/11\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-protecting-the-right-to-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">January speech<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJim Crow 2.0 is about two insidious things: voter suppression and election subversion. It\u2019s no longer about who gets to vote; it\u2019s about making it harder to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden then compared Republicans to segregationists.<\/p>\n<p>Biden was also given four Pinocchios by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/30\/biden-falsely-claims-new-georgia-law-ends-voting-hours-early\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post<\/a> after he said the law \u201cends voting hours early so working people can\u2019t cast their vote after their shift is over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law permits polling places to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and as long as a voter is in line by 7 p.m. then voters may still cast their vote.<\/p>\n<p>Failed gubernatorial candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/26\/jim-crow-2-0-critics-georgia-bill-kemp-abrams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stacey Abrams<\/a>\u00a0and Democratic South Carolina <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/16\/jim-clyburn-election-integrity-laws-jim-crow-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rep. Jim Clyburn<\/a> also likened the law to \u201cJim Crow 2.0\u201d after it was enacted.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration went as far as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/25\/justice-department-georgia-lawsuit-election-law-merrick-garland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suing the state<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<p>Major League Baseball (MLB) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/02\/biden-manfred-mlb-pressure-all-star-game-atlanta-georgia-elections-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pulled<\/a> the 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/05\/social-justice-major-league-baseball-all-star-game-atlanta-georgia-denver-colorado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">All Star Game<\/a> out of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/05\/black-owned-businesses-major-hit-major-league-baseball-move-out-atlanta-voter-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta<\/a> in response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/25\/georgia-gov-brian-kemp-mlb-world-series-all-star-voter-integrity-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">law<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMajor League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,\u201d the organization said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The move came after <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/01\/biden-pressures-mlb-move-all-star-game-atlanta-georgia-voting-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biden<\/a> himself called for MLB to pull the game.<\/p>\n<p>Actor <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/will-smith-movie-production-georgia-election-integrity-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Will Smith<\/a> pulled his production of \u201cEmancipation\u201d out of the state in response to what he said were \u201cnewly enacted voting restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leaders of 100 major <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/15\/corporations-georgia-voting-law-boycotts-mlb-all-star-game-coca-cola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">corporations<\/a> gathered via Zoom last year to discuss ways to combat election integrity laws following the signing of the legislation. Some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/11\/major-corporations-oppose-election-integrity-measures-georgia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">corporations<\/a>, like Citibank, Coca-Cola, Delta and Microsoft criticized the election integrity law.<\/p>\n<p>The president then used the debate surrounding the bill to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/11\/biden-filibuster-georgia-voting-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">try and convince Americans<\/a> that it was of the utmost necessity to scrap the filibuster so that Democrats could nationalize election laws.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Georgia in January, Biden said he believed \u201cthe threat to our democracy is so grave that we must find a way to pass these voting rights bills, to bake them in, vote and let the majority prevail. And if that bare minimum is blocked, we have no option but to change the Senate rules, including getting rid of the filibuster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s election bills, the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, would nationalize federal election laws by allowing the Department of Justice (DOJ) to strike down state-level procedures if it deems them discriminatory.<\/p>\n<p>Critics argue the laws would be unconstitutional as the Constitution requires the federal government to defer to a given state\u2019s voting laws.
