Rove described Deese as \u201cone of the most fervent advocates for making it worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, <a href=\"https:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/6306622584112?playlist_id=930909788001#sp=show-clips\">Deese<\/a> said that the U.S. economy was \u201cin a period of transition\u201d from rapid recovery to \u201ca period of more stable and resilient growth.\u201d Guest host Martha MacCallum challenged Deese on the point, noting that soaring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/experts-make-dire-warning-on-already-record-level-inflation\">inflation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nationwide-gas-prices-expected-could-hit-staggering-new-high-by-august-top-u-s-bank-analyst-says\">gas prices<\/a>, combined with a declining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/20\/stocks-head-for-another-potentially-treacherous-week-after-sp-500-falls-into-bear-market-territory.html\">stock market<\/a>, are forcing Americans to make difficult decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you recommend to them in terms of specifics and what they can do to try to weather this a little bit easier as we go through what you\u2019re calling a transition?\u201d MacCallum asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat people should know is that we can do this,\u201d Deese responded. \u201cWe know how to do this. First, we need to give the Federal Reserve the independence to do what it does. It has the tools to combat inflation. Second, we need to reduce costs and make things more affordable for families during this period\u2026 reduce the cost of the Internet bills that families pay, or the prescription drug prices that they pay\u2026 And, third, we need to bring down the federal deficit. Because of the president\u2019s policies, we\u2019ve made a lot of progress on that front, the deficit down $1.5 trillion already this year. But we need to make more progress on that as well. That will help produce price pressures in the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to build a more resilient recovery,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019re on the way. We\u2019ve got to focus on tackling inflation right now, and that\u2019s what this president\u2019s doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MacCallum then asked Rove during the panel segment to respond to Deese\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, if you don\u2019t know what the problem is, you can\u2019t come up with a solution,\u201d Rove <a href=\"https:\/\/radio.foxnews.com\/podcast\/fox-news-sunday\/\">responded<\/a>. \u201cAnd he, obviously, doesn\u2019t know what the problem is. The problem was identified last year, when this administration proposed a $1.9 trillion unnecessary Covid stimulus bill. And Larry Summers, Bill Clinton\u2019s Treasury Secretary, said you\u2019re going to throw gasoline on the fire of inflation. And that\u2019s exactly what happened. And since then, Brian Deese has been one of the most fervent advocates for making it worse. What you heard him say there, he sort of carefully camouflaged it, was, Build Back Better. Let\u2019s pass a new bill that supposedly lowers costs by spending lots of government money on free child care, for universal pre-K, pharmaceuticals, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. [That would] only make it worse. The administration is in bad shape on this issue.
