Tim Scott, (R-SC)<\/a>, discussed the recent racially charged mass shooting in Buffalo, the Supreme Court\u2019s pending decision on abortion, the ongoing protests at the homes of justices, and what it means to be a black conservative. \u00a0Below is the third of three articles on the interview.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u00a0\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/america-is-not-a-racist-country-after-buffalo-shooting-sen-tim-scott-urges-americans-to-heal-not-point-fingers\">Sen. Tim Scott<\/a> finds the silence from most Democrats deafening as the U.S. Supreme Court and its conservative justices are being threatened in advance of a decision that may overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina Republican weighed in on threats during an exclusive sit-down with The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pro-abortion-extremists-threaten-to-burn-down-storm-supreme-court-murder-justices-government-memo-reveals\">following a report<\/a> that government officials are investigating threats to murder the justices, burn down or storm the court, and attack houses of worship.\u00a0These threats \u201care likely to persist and may increase leading up to and following the issuing of the Court\u2019s official ruling,\u201d according to a May 13 Department of Homeland Security (DHS)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/05\/18\/supreme-court-abortion-roe-protests-violence\">memo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is disgusting, despicable, and undeniable that the Department of Justice needs to stand up and take care, protect our justices and their families,\u201d Scott told The Daily Wire. \u201cThis is a real threat that should be taken seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott emphasized that it is \u201cour responsibility to stand in the gap\u201d to protect both the American judicial system and the justices themselves, saying, \u201cCount me in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would hope that all Americans would come together to defend the right embedded in our Constitution to free speech,\u201d he said. \u201cI would hope that we would send a clear message to folks who want to intimidate our justices: Not here, not now, not ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide protests and demonstrations have followed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\">the leak<\/a> of Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s draft opinion, an \u201cunflinching repudiation\u201d of <i>Roe v. Wade,<\/i> the landmark 1973 decision that made abortion a federal right. The document, which is not final, says <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0was egregiously wrong.<\/p>\n<p>On May 3, Chief Justice John Roberts\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/justice-roberts-abortion-leak-da48f1b2-087f-4a43-b037-068be226ce2c.html?stream=top&#038;utm_source=alert&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=alerts_all\">released<\/a>\u00a0a statement confirming that the draft document is real, but noting that it did not represent the Supreme Court\u2019s final decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe at the Court are blessed to have a workforce \u2014 permanent employees and law clerks alike \u2014 intensely loyal to the institution and dedicated to the rule of law,\u201d the chief justice said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here,\u201d he added, noting that he has \u201cdirected the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many on the right\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/abortion-supporters-leaked-supreme-court-draft-to-intimidate-the-court-pro-life-advocates-say\">have speculated<\/a> that the draft opinion was leaked by a progressive Supreme Court clerk in an effort to intimidate the court and change its decision \u2014 and as protests over the news continue, conservative activists and legal experts call for the Supreme Court to promptly release its decision.<\/p>\n<p>Asked what role Democratic rhetoric surrounding <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> has played in the escalating anger from pro-abortion activists, Scott criticized those lawmakers who have remained silent on the threats to the justices and to the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you don\u2019t stand up against those folks in your party or in your centers of influence, the credibility is lost,\u201d he said. \u201cThey have to stand up and say, \u2018That is wrong. This is not the way we address the issue.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House issued a statement\u00a0condemning acts of \u201cviolence, threats, or vandalism\u201d after vandals set fire to a pro-life clinic in Wisconsin, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlexanderShur\/status\/1523320097993076737\">scrawling on the clinic wall<\/a>: \u201cIf abortions aren\u2019t safe, then you aren\u2019t either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the White House has not discouraged protesters from demonstrating at the homes of the justices. Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, addressing the protesting at the justices homes, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/white-house-responds-abortion-related-protests-homes-supreme\/story?id=84593964\">said that<\/a> Biden\u2019s view is that \u201cthere\u2019s a lot of passion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Illinois Democrat Sen. Richard Durbin has been one of the few in his party to forcefully condemn the protests, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/durbin-calls-protests-outside-supreme-132245123.html\">calling them \u201creprehensible.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scott said that Americans have the right to \u201csay what you want to say in a peaceful, constructive manner,\u201d they do not have the right to \u201cthreaten lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have the right to threaten murder,\u201d he added, before referring to Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett and her family. \u201cYou don\u2019t have the right to make a mother of six or seven have to fear for the lives of her children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat should not be a part of the job qualifications or the job duties,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-abortion activists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/womens-march-promises-summer-of-rage\">have promised<\/a> a \u201cSummer of Rage\u201d as they prepare for an impending decision in <em>Dobbs vs. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>, and the potential overturn of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be ungovernable until this government starts working for us, until the attacks on our bodies let up, until the right to an abortion is codified into law,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/theweek.com\/abortion-law\/1013556\/abortion-rights-protests-kick-off-planned-summer-of-rage\">said<\/a> Women\u2019s March President Rachel Carmona.<\/p>\n<p>Scott urged pro-life Americans to meet this rhetoric, and the incoming \u201cSummer of Rage,\u201d with dignity and faith. \u201cI believe in the power of prayer. It continues to work in my life. I would say we should all pray for our adversaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe ready to defend yourself with affection, with love, and with the power and the resolve of your convictions,\u201d he added. \u201cWe don\u2019t back down from what we believe. We will not be intimidated into a small corner in any room. We\u2019re going to stand outside. We\u2019re going to shout to the top of our voices about what we believe in, what we have our convictions on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If pro-life Americans behave in this way, Scott said, the contrast will be remarkable between \u201cthose who want rage to fill the air and the screens of television\u201d \u00a0and those who are \u201cpowerful and positive and committed to showing that peace does lead to life.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an exclusive and wide-ranging interview with The Daily Wire, Sen.
