Representatives for both BlackRock and Ancestry.com denied the claim.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancestry.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ancestry.com<\/a> is a prominent genealogy website that is often used by individuals to research their family histories. The company is also \u201cthe world\u2019s largest DNA service provider,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-ancestry-m-a-blackstone-group\/blackstone-to-acquire-ancestry-com-for-4-7-billion-idUSKCN2512ES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Facebook post claims the investment management firm BlackRock owns 75 percent of the company.\u00a0\u201cBlack Rock now own 75% of the Ancestry.c0m,\u201d reads the post. \u201cSo they have a lot of DNA Just saying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>There is no evidence to support this claim. Ancestry.com is actually owned by Blackstone, a management firm that acquired a 75 percent stake in the company following a $4.7 billion acquisition deal in 2020, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/business\/blackstone-reaches-4-7-billion-deal-to-buy-ancestry-com\/#:~:text=Blackstone%20Group%20is%20betting%20on,people%20familiar%20with%20the%20transaction.\"><span>The Seattle Times<\/span><\/a><span>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/what-to-know-about-blackrock-larry-fink-biden-cabinet-facts-2020-12\">BlackRock<\/a> manages approximately $10 trillion, making it the world\u2019s largest investment manager, whereas <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/BX\/profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blackstone Inc.<\/a> is an \u201calternative asset management firm specializing in real estate, private equity, hedge fund solutions, credit, secondary funds of funds, public debt and equity and multi-asset class strategies,\u201d according to its profile on <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/BX\/profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yahoo Finance<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis claim is false,\u201d a spokesperson for BlackRock said\u00a0in an email to Check Your Fact. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2018\/10\/19\/fact-check-elizabeth-warren-native-american-dna-white\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: Does Elizabeth Warren Have Less Native American DNA Than The Typical White American?)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Ancestry.com likewise denied the claim, telling Check Your Fact in an email that the company has \u201cno relationship\u201d with BlackRock. The spokesperson reiterated the company was majority-owned by Blackstone, not BlackRock.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that misinformation has spread online regarding genealogy. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2018\/10\/19\/fact-check-elizabeth-warren-native-american-dna-white\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check Your Fact<\/a> previously debunked a viral 2018 claim that alleged Democratic Sen.
