As part of this new framework, we\u2019ll start adding warning notices on high visibility misleading Tweets related to the war in Ukraine. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fr0NGleJXP\">pic.twitter.com\/fr0NGleJXP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Twitter Safety (@TwitterSafety) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitterSafety\/status\/1527318183191126019?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.twitter.com\/en_us\/topics\/company\/2022\/introducing-our-crisis-misinformation-policy\">lengthier explanation<\/a> from Yoel Roth, Twitter\u2019s head of Safety and Integrity, introduced the measure as \u201ca global policy that will guide our efforts to elevate credible, authoritative information, and will help to ensure viral misinformation isn\u2019t amplified or recommended by us during crises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ultimate goal, Roth said, was to prevent Twitter from becoming party to misleading information that could then \u201cundermine public trust and cause further harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roth included a list of things that users could expect to see warning labels attached to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>False coverage or event reporting, or information that mischaracterizes conditions on the ground as a conflict evolves;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>False allegations regarding use of force, incursions on territorial sovereignty, or around the use of weapons;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Demonstrably false or misleading allegations of war crimes or mass atrocities against specific populations;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>False information regarding international community response, sanctions, defensive actions, or humanitarian operations.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cStrong commentary, efforts to debunk or fact check, and personal anecdotes or first person accounts do not fall within the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.twitter.com\/rules-and-policies\/crisis-misinformation\">scope of the policy<\/a>,\u201d Roth concluded.<\/p>\n<p>But critics were immediately wary of the new policy.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally syndicated radio host Dana Loesch <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DLoesch\/status\/1527349539715239949\">commented<\/a>, \u201cThey\u2019re gonna get their Ministry of Truth one way or the other folks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrought to you by the same people that told you Hunter\u2019s laptop was \u2018Russian disinformation,&#8217;\u201d Michael Seifert <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realmichaelseif\/status\/1527363012687867914\">added<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwitter is doubling down on trying to censor dissent,\u201d Kyle Lamb <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kylamb8\/status\/1527356552436338692\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cThey want to only amplify professional liars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, is Twitter taking the place of Biden\u2019s Disinfo Board?\u201d Emma Woodhouse <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EWoodhouse7\/status\/1527355334763102213\">wanted to know<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLOL Good thing I wasn\u2019t drinking anything.
