Wade could be overturned.<\/p>\n<p>Harris called the possible overturning a \u201cwar on women\u2019s rights\u201d and claimed Roe v. Wade is a \u201cright to privacy.\u201d Overturning it \u201copens the door\u201d to possible further restrictions on contraception and who one marries, she claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier this month we learned that the Supreme Court is poised to strike down Roe. If they do, it will be the first time in over 50 years at least that the court has recognized a Constitutional right only to take it away. The strength of our country has always been that we fight to move forward,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt its core this is about our future as a nation, about whether we live in a country where the government can interfere in personal decisions,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/19\/us\/oklahoma-ban-abortions.html#:~:text=The%20Oklahoma%20Legislature%20gave%20final,the%20nation&#039;s%20strictest%20abortion%20law.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oklahoma bill<\/a> that would restrict abortions restrict abortion at fertilization is \u201coutrageous\u201d and \u201cthe latest in a series of extreme laws around the country\u201d that \u201care designed to punish and control women,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Harris previously spoke at an abortion rights organization May 4, participating in the EMILY\u2019s List conference. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/04\/report-kamala-change-first-white-house-speech-scotus-leak-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: REPORT:\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Kamala<\/span>\u00a0Scrambled To Change First White House Speech Since SCOTUS Leak About\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Abortion)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the court overturns Roe v. Wade, it will be a direct assault on freedom, on the fundamental right to self-determination,\u201d Harris\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sgLcdKN1iCg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v%3DsgLcdKN1iCg&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1653070239967000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2or95Ui2AhGxHImdsue4Io\">said<\/a>\u00a0in her speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo those Republican leaders are trying to weaponize the use of the law against women. What we say: \u2018How dare they? How dare they tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body?&#8217;\u201d Harris continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow dare they? How dare they try to stop her from determining her own future? How dare they try to deny women their rights and their freedoms?\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/justice-roberts-fbi-investigation-scotus-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">draft opinion<\/a>, first reported by Politico, showed that five justices \u2014 Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett \u2014 voted to overturn, while three \u2014 Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan \u2014 dissented.
