Abbott Nutrition, the company that makes Similac, confirmed the claim is false.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. is currently in the midst of a baby formula shortage, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/17\/us\/baby-formula-shortage-tennessee-hospitalized.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>. Despite the shortage, a viral Facebook post claims that some formula companies will send concerned parents baby formula if they call a certain number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the shortage of formula if you call enfamil or similac they will notify the state you can\u2019t find any for your child and the state will send you a 6 pack of 12 Oz cans to your address! For free!\u201d reads the post, which includes the alleged numbers of the two companies.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The claim is incorrect. No mention of such an initiative has been mentioned on either the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=free%20baby%20formula%20(from%3Aabbottnews)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=free%20baby%20formula%20(from%3Aenfamil)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>\u00a0or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/325742687481903\/search\/?q=free%20baby%20formula\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/319321431468083\/search\/?q=free%20baby%20formula\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pages<\/a> of the companies. Neither <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nutritionnews.abbott\/media-center\/press-releases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abbott<\/a> Nutrition, nor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reckitt.com\/newsroom\/latest-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reckitt<\/a>, the maker of Enfamil, have any press releases on their websites about such a program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is untrue,\u201d said Vicky Assardo, spokesperson for Abbott Nutrition, in an email to Check Your Fact. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/05\/17\/fact-check-baby-formula-tricare-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Will Tricare Provide Free Baby Formula And Ship It Directly To Anyone Who Applies?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Enfamil dealt with similar rumors in early 2020. \u201cContrary to rumors in some online social networks, we are not distributing free cases of formula,\u201d reads a March 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Enfamil\/photos\/a.420120311388194\/2903712716362262\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook post<\/a> from the brand. \u201cWe are instead focused on ensuring equitable availability for every baby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abbott Nutrition recently signed an agreement with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reopen a previously closed facility to help alleviate the ongoing formula shortage, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2022\/05\/16\/1099366403\/fda-announces-plans-to-ease-the-shortage-of-baby-formula\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>.
