The former has 31.2% of the vote, while the latter has 31.1%, per <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/05\/17\/us\/elections\/results-pennsylvania-us-senate.html\"><span>The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span>. Kathy Barnette \u2014 the conservative commentator who experienced a surge in the final days of the race \u2014 is effectively out of contention with 24.7%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Oz performed particularly well in the eastern part of the commonwealth, while McCormick clinched many counties in the western and central portions. The results come despite <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pennsylvania-gop-senate-primary-might-be-two-way-contest-between-oz-and-barnette-poll-suggests\"><span>polls<\/span><\/a><span> in the days before the primary election that indicated a two-way contest between Oz and Barnette.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump prompted Oz \u2014 his endorsed candidate \u2014 to claim the win. \u201cDr. Oz should declare victory. It makes it much harder for them to cheat with the ballots that they \u2018just happened to find,\u2019\u201d Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/18\/trump-dr-oz-should-declare-victory-pennsylvania-00033420\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a><span> on Truth Social, his social media company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Oz was the most <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pennsylvania-gop-senate-primary-might-be-two-way-contest-between-oz-and-barnette-poll-suggests\"><span>polarizing<\/span><\/a><span> Republican candidate in the Senate primary, according to an Emerson College poll taken ahead of the election. Although he is leading the race, 48% of Republicans reported a \u201csomewhat or strongly unfavorable opinion\u201d of Oz. Republicans had a 32% unfavorable view of McCormick and a 28% unfavorable view of Barnette.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Pennsylvania Department of State warned in a Tuesday <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/live-blog\/primary-elections-live-updates-2022-rcna29127?icid=ed_npd_nn_nn_np_liveblog#rcrd2040\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> that the results of many close elections will not be immediately available. \u201cWe expect to have unofficial results within a few days,\u201d the agency said. \u201cGiven the possibility of recounts and the need for official certifications, it is unlikely that final results in all races will be available tonight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Oz or McCormick will face Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the winner of the Democratic Senate primary, in November. The victor will then succeed Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican who is retiring after two terms in the Senate. Democrats therefore have a chance to flip the seat in the general election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fetterman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pennsylvania-democrats-pick-basketball-shorts-and-hoodie-clad-john-fetterman-over-rising-star-conor-lamb-in-senate-primary\"><span>defeated<\/span><\/a><span> U.S. Congressman Conor Lamb despite <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-democrat-in-pennsylvania-senate-race-to-get-pacemaker-campaign-announces-on-election-day\"><span>suffering a stroke<\/span><\/a><span> over the weekend and successfully undergoing a procedure to receive a pacemaker on election day. Fetterman \u2014 who was the longtime mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, before becoming lieutenant governor in 2019 \u2014 carried every county and more than doubled Lamb\u2019s share of the Democratic electorate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fetterman is known for wearing basketball shorts and a hoodie to campaign events. As Fetterman said in one campaign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/14\/us\/politics\/fetterman-pennsylvania-democratic-primary.html\"><span>interview<\/span><\/a><span>: \u201cI\u2019m just a dude that shows up and just talks about what I believe in, you know?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In contrast, Lamb is a Marine veteran and former prosecutor who earned national recognition for defeating Rick Saccone, a Republican, in the 2018 special election for Pennsylvania\u2019s 18th congressional district. As <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/12\/us\/politics\/conor-lamb-pennsylvania-congress.html\"><span>The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span> recently described, Lamb is a \u201cmoderate who had won in Trump territory and swing suburbs alike.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nevertheless, the 37-year-old, clean-cut lawmaker failed to excite the Democratic base in what promises to be a polarizing midterm season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe had rock star potential \u2014 their campaign flittered that away,\u201d longtime Pennsylvania Democratic operative and Lamb supporter Mike Mikus told The New York Times. \u201cThey ran a campaign that said, \u2018Let\u2019s stay above the fray.
