He refuted the claim on social media.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Allies of Marcos Jr., including some of his relatives, are set to dominate both chambers of the country\u2019s Congress, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-midterm-elections-asia-southeast-franco-274f02b1fd6fb7dddfa2e2836f797841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. His son, Sandro Marcos, was recently elected to the country\u2019s House of Representatives, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/wireStory\/allies-marcos-jr-set-dominate-philippine-congress-84688638\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook shows a photo of the younger Marcos paired with an alleged quote of his calling for the Philippines to tax OFWs. These workers are not required to pay income taxes on income made abroad, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/business\/ask-the-tax-whiz-filing-annual-itr-ofw-employees-self-employed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rappler<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can impose taxes to our seafarers, nurses and other sectors who are earning a lot in abroad,\u201d reads the alleged quote. \u201cIt is high time that they should also pay their taxes here in the Philippines and not only to their host country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence Marcos made such a statement. It does not appear on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FerdinandAlexanderMarcos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sandromarcos7\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram<\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sandromarcos7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> accounts.
