Vladivostok is a large port city in eastern Russia. Its duma is equivalent to a city council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not agree with the position of the party leadership,\u201d Kamenshchikov told Russian newspaper Kommersant at the time, specifically alluding to\u00a0\u201cmilitary operations in Ukraine and the use of Russian troops on the territory of a neighboring state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am against war in principle,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Vladivostok city councillor Viktor Kamenshchikov resigned from the Communist Party on February 28 in protest against the invasion. Now he has apparently been arrested while trying to cross the Mexico-US border. He reportedly has a child with US citizenship due to birth. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LX6payUgkX\">https:\/\/t.co\/LX6payUgkX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 X Soviet \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\udde6 (@XSovietNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/XSovietNews\/status\/1527208347769896962?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It was not known where along the U.S. border Kamenshchikov was being detained or if he was seeking asylum. Russian state news service RIA Novosti reported that a source said Kamenshchikov had been arrested, although \u201cit is not yet known for what exactly, presumably for an illegal border crossing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kamenshchikov\u2019s opposition put him at risk of arrest in Russia, where\u00a0spreading what is determined to be \u201cfake\u201d information about the military can mean up to 15 years in prison.\u00a0Kamenshchikov said in an interview that\u00a0people\u2019s failure to oppose the war, \u201cmeans that they are\u00a0for it\u201d and warned Russia will have to pay for \u201c5,10, 20 years for all the horror that is happening today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t call me a hero because I defiantly left the party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a March 5 interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibreal.org\">sibreal.org<\/a>, he accused the government of tricking deputies into voting for a military invasion.\u00a0Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov and the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LPDR) leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky knew about Vladimir Putin\u2019s war plans in advance, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Anatoly Dolgachev, the first secretary of the Communist Party\u2019s Primorsky regional branch, reportedly called fleeing to the United States, whose \u201cimperialist policies\u201d the party opposes, is the worst thing a party member can do.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-war protests in Russia initially began in city squares, but demonstrators were rounded up and arrested. Since then, opposition has become more stealthy, with graffiti,\u00a0sabotage of the railways of both Russia and Belarus and the firebombing of recruitment centers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/protests-russia-take-interesting-twists\">according to Fox News<\/a>. One shadowy group called\u00a0\u201cStop the Wagons\u201d posted on social media a map of railway targets for blocking military supplies bound Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The number of illegal border crossers encountered by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol on the Mexican border reached an all-time high in April, according to government\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/national-media-release\/cbp-releases-april-2022-monthly-operational-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a>.
