The rumor stems from a website that publishes \u201chumor, parody, and satire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Weather Underground, a pro-communist militant group, formed in the late 1960s as part of the anti-Vietnam War movement, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Weathermen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Britannica<\/a>. Ayers previously faced charges for his involvement in the radical group but the charges were dismissed due to government misconduct, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/transcripts\/97112600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook claims he was recently convicted for a new criminal offense. The image shows what appears to be a screenshot of a news article with a headline that reads, \u201cJAG Convicts Bill Ayers on Charges of Seditious Conspiracy.\u201d The post\u2019s caption goes on to claim that Ayers faced a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay on May 12 and 13 that found him guilty of seditious conspiracy and sentenced him to 25 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>The claim is incorrect. Neither the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/?Search=William+Ayers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Defense Department<\/a> nor the <a href=\"https:\/\/jag.navylive.dodlive.mil\/News\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Navy Judge Advocate General Corps\u2019<\/a> has issued any statement about Ayers being convicted on their websites or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064688230749\/search\/?q=William%20Ayers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064955851150\/search\/?q=William%20Ayers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Ayers%20(from%3ANavy_JAG%20OR%20from%3ADeptofDefense)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>. There is likewise no mention of such a conviction or charge on Ayers\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/billayers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Bill+Ayers+convicted&#038;oq=Bill+Ayers+convicted&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i64.5160j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> about Ayers being arrested, charged or convicted for such a crime. <strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2018\/03\/02\/fact-check-did-terrorist-groups-target-dianne-feinstein\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Terrorist Groups Target Dianne Feinstein?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A keyword search revealed the May 17 <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2022\/05\/jag-convicts-bill-ayres-on-charges-of-seditious-conspiracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> was published by the website Real Raw News.
