Many of the ships are passenger vessels and fishing boats, according to the website MarineTraffic.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Several Chinese cities are in the midst of strict lockdowns as the country faces its worst COVID-19 outbreak since the pandemic began, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/04\/21\/china-covid-lockdown-shanghai-port-supply-chain-backlog-container-ships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fortune<\/a>. The lockdowns have strained international shipping as an estimated one in five cargo ships are stuck in traffic outside of congested ports, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sa.buglecall\/posts\/3102507150063048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> shared on Facebook claims to show the marine congestion in China. It shows what appears to be a marine traffic map in which hundreds of different colored dots appear off the country\u2019s coast. \u201cShips waiting to dock because of China\u2019s insane COVID strategy,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption. \u201cThis is international.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This claim is misleading. While the map does show ships off the coast of China, not all of them are waiting to dock. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/10\/14\/fact-check-image-all-sitting-ships-waiting-dock-ports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show \u2018All Sitting Ships\u2019 Waiting To At Ports?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The map is from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinetraffic.com\/en\/ais\/home\/centerx:113.6\/centery:29.7\/zoom:5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MarineTraffic<\/a>, a website that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinetraffic.com\/en\/p\/company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tracks<\/a> ships worldwide using satellite receivers and receiving stations.\u00a0The green <a href=\"https:\/\/help.marinetraffic.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/204970527-Vessels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">icons<\/a> represent cargo ships, while circled dots signify the ship is anchored and arrows suggest the ship is in motion, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.marinetraffic.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/204970527-Vessels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>.
