Conservative commentator Kathy Barnette had earned slightly below 25%, making it a two-way race between Oz and McCormick for the right to face Democrat John Fetterman in the general election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The results come despite <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pennsylvania-gop-senate-primary-might-be-two-way-contest-between-oz-and-barnette-poll-suggests\"><span>polls<\/span><\/a><span> in the days before the primary election that indicated a two-way contest between Oz, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, and Barnette, who surged late in the race.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The races is to fill the seat of Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican who is retiring after two terms in the Senate. Democrats hope to flip the seat in the November general election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Some races, however, were decisively concluded on Tuesday night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the Republican gubernatorial primary, voters <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/decision-2022\/most-polls-close-in-closely-watched-pa-primary-shapiro-is-democratic-gov-nominee\/3242363\/\"><span>selected<\/span><\/a><span> State Sen. Doug Mastriano over former U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta. Mastriano will face current Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who ran uncontested in the Democratic primary, during the general election. Shapiro has thus far <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/pennsylvania-democratic-gubernatorial-hopeful-shapiro-touts-centrist-profile\"><span>emphasized<\/span><\/a><span> his centrist platform and funded ads boosting Mastriano in his primary race, in the hopes that his ties to Trump would harm him in November. Current Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA) is ineligible to run for a third consecutive term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Meanwhile, Fetterman, the Keystone State\u2019s lieutenant governor, defeated U.S. Congressman Conor Lamb and State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta in the race for the commonwealth\u2019s Democratic Senate nomination. The victory came despite Fetterman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-democrat-in-pennsylvania-senate-race-to-get-pacemaker-campaign-announces-on-election-day\"><span>suffering a stroke<\/span><\/a><span> over the weekend and successfully undergoing a procedure to receive a pacemaker on election day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>President Biden lauded Fetterman for his victory, saying in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden\/status\/1526735610198863872\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> that the nominee \u201cunderstands that working class families in Pennsylvania and across the country have been dealt out for far too long.\u201d The statement also condemned any Republican that Fetterman faces in the fall as \u201ctoo dangerous, too craven, and too extreme\u201d to represent Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Pennsylvania Department of State said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/live-blog\/primary-elections-live-updates-2022-rcna29127?icid=ed_npd_nn_nn_np_liveblog#rcrd2040\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> that the results of many close elections will not be immediately available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe know voters want results on Primary Election Night, but the priority must be to make sure every vote is accurately and securely counted,\u201d the statement read. \u201cAhead of the primary, more than 900,000 applications for mail-in and absentee ballots were requested. Pennsylvania election law does not permit pre-canvassing of ballots before Election Day \u2014 counties cannot begin counting mail ballots until 7 a.m. on Election Day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe expect to have unofficial results within a few days,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cGiven the possibility of recounts and the need for official certifications, it is unlikely that final results in all races will be available tonight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>National media has focused on Pennsylvania as a key \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/08\/us\/politics\/midterms-abortion-pennsylvania.html?smid=url-share\"><span>abortion battleground<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d ahead of the Supreme Court\u2019s likely overturning of <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span>.
