But also, we have a very clear contrast right now. You have Senate Republican proposals that are about raising taxes on the poor and middle class and you have the president\u2019s worldview, which is shared by the majority of Americans, that if anybody needs to be carrying more of the load right now, it is the wealthiest corporations that have become extremely profitable\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sorkin had apparently heard enough and interrupted Buttigieg saying, \u201cThat\u2019s not how you\u2019re going to solve inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">How about you focus your ass on fixing our supply chain issues. Corporations that have invoked inflation as an excuse to keep prices high in ways that are not just reflected by the supply picture and are pocketing the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But Buttigieg\u2019s defense is not gaining a lot of traction, and neither are the President\u2019s claims. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/jeff-bezos-bidens-misdirection-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hardly a conservative hardliner,<\/a> ripped Biden for claiming that \u201ccutting the deficit\u201d will ease inflation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In fact, the administration tried hard to inject even more stimulus into an already over-heated, inflationary economy and only Manchin saved them from themselves. Inflation is a regressive tax that most hurts the least affluent. And inflation\u2019s still too high but coming down. So there should be a period in the next year or two where growth is low, unemployment is at least up a little bit and inflation is still high. So you could call that stagflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last week, CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/11\/cpi-april-2022.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported that the Consumer Price Index<\/a> rose to 8.3%, nearing the highest level in 40 years. The Core Consumer Price Index, which does not include food and energy prices, also rose to a higher than \u201cexpected\u201d 6.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation-adjusted wages also went down for American workers to 2.6% from the same time last year due to the cost of living surge.
