Paul Cullors, Patrisse\u2019s brother, raked in $840,000 from the nonprofit\u2019s charity funds. Damon Turner, who fathers a child with Patrisse, owns a company that was paid nearly $970,000 from the organization for \u201ccreative services\u201d including \u201cproduc[ing] live events.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 63-page Form 990 document, an annual filing required for nonprofit organizations to maintain their tax-exempt status, shows Cullors reimbursed the organization $73,523 for a charter flight,\u201d the Post reported. \u201cBLM insists she took the flight in 2021 out of concern for the COVID-19 pandemic and the health risks that come with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Cullors \u201calready found herself in hot water after receiving a cool $120,000 payment for undisclosed \u2018consulting fees\u2019 by BLM.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/government-and-politics-race-ethnicity-philanthropy-black-lives-matter-5bc4772e029da522036f8ad2a02990aa\">published<\/a> by the Associated Press on Tuesday, shows the organization that raised $90 million in the aftermath of George Floyd\u2019s death ended its fiscal year on June 30, 2021 with nearly $42 million in assets. <\/p>\n<p>A board member said the BLM Global Network operates with a $4 million dollar budget with tax forms detailing $32 million invested in stocks that are expected to serve as a permanent endowment fund for the group\u2019s work. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than $37 million was spent by the foundation on grants, real estate, and charter on private flights, according to the tax filings,\u201d the Post wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Major purchases with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/02\/02\/will-the-money-raised-for-black-lives-matter-actually-go-to-black-lives\/\">little oversight<\/a> have raised eyebrows in recent months as the group\u2019s leadership buys high-priced homes in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/04\/black-lives-matter-used-donations-to-buy-6-million-southern-california-home-report\/\">Los Angeles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/fairness-justice\/anger-over-blms-purchase-of-8-1-million-toronto-mansion-grows-as-groups-finances-scrutinized\">Toronto<\/a> for questionable use.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>[LISTEN:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ricochet.com\/podcast\/federalist-radio-hour\/did-blm-dupe-corporate-america-out-of-millions\/\">Did BLM Dupe Corporate America Out Of Millions?<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prior to her resignation last summer, Patrisse Cullors <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/05\/09\/blms-patrisse-cullors-admits-using-6m-mansion-for-parties\/\">used<\/a> the organization\u2019s new $6 million dollar California mansion to throw her son a private birthday party despite claims she would never use the property for personal use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look back at that and think, that probably wasn\u2019t the best idea,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-los-angeles-race-and-ethnicity-philanthropy-only-on-ap-db1db730c77540f0cbc614b0d3522b88\">told<\/a> the Associated Press after she was caught. <\/p>\n<p>In January, the organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/andrew-kerr-on-fox-news-blm-has-duty-to-clear-up-money-mystery\">under fire<\/a> for an apparent absence of leadership overseeing its tens of millions in tax-exempt funds drew outrage after the purchase of a 10,000-square-foot Canadian mansion in Toronto for more than $8 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor BLM Canada to take money from BLM Global Network [Foundation] for a building without consulting the community was unethical,\u201d Canadian BLM activists Sarah Jama and Sahra Soudi said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SarahJama_\/status\/1483850878499098631?s=20&#038;t=QaP3CFAYvbouBsOxjEL8_A\">statement<\/a> following the purchase. \u201cFor BLM Canada to refuse to answer questions from young Black organizers goes against the spirit of movement-building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair of Canadian activists left the Toronto chapter after. <\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/13\/blm-co-founder-questions-about-financial-statements-and-non-profit-tax-forms-are-racist\/\">according<\/a> to Cullors, questions surrounding the organization\u2019s financial ethics are racist and the 990 nonprofit \u201cstructure\u201d is \u201cdeeply unsafe.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
