Marco Rubio questioned him on the irreversible damage those dangerous procedures can cause.  <\/p>\n<p>As Rubio noted in the congressional hearing, so-called \u201cgender transforming care\u201d is \u201cnot an FDA-approved use for puberty blockers and hormone therapy\u201d yet the Biden administration is openly endorsing it and pushing it on American minors. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs NIH is America\u2019s medical research agency, what work have we done to determine if this non-FDA approved use of these medicines, this off-label use of these medicines, is appropriate for minors seeking \u2018gender transforming care?\u2019\u201d Rubio asked. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"I3ORuomLMkfVertScJh7nGEisp2j940b8wN1TCHzZq5KAxUB\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today the head of NIH admitted there are no long-term safety studies of the off-label use of puberty blockers by children that Biden and the left keep promoting<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0XxgF1EaUa\">pic.twitter.com\/0XxgF1EaUa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marcorubio\/status\/1526631150864809985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In response, Tabak parroted \u201cobservational\u201d NIH-funded studies, some of which were specifically \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2018\/06\/07\/feds-send-1-million-study-designed-push-transgenderism-children\/\">designed<\/a> to justify chemically sterilizing children who suffer from gender confusion or dysphoria,\u201d as Jane Robbins and Erin Tuttle reported for The Federalist in 2018. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNIH funds a small number of observational studies to gather the data on the effects of treatments that transgender youth and their parents have chosen. And there are also a small number of studies that describe the health issues and risks, including HIV, that are unique to these transgender youth. But all of the research in this space is observational. We do no interventional work,\u201d Tabak said. <\/p>\n<p>Rubio, dissatisfied with Tabak\u2019s answer, pressed the NIH leader harder to answer for the Biden administration\u2019s promotion of chemical castration which often causes \u201cirreversible\u201d damage to children. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsn\u2019t there some wisdom in the notion that before policymakers are out there promoting the off-label use of medications that lead to permanent changes, that there be some more research done on its impact, you know, 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now?\u201d Rubio asked.<\/p>\n<p>Much like Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/05\/bidens-hhs-secretary-cutting-off-kids-genitals-is-health-care-and-taxpayers-should-pay-for-it\/\">Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra<\/a> did in a congressional hearing a couple of weeks prior, Tabak claimed that endorsing these radical experiments for children is necessary because \u201ctransgender youth are more vulnerable to depression, anxiety, engaging in self-harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResearchers are observing the longer-term psychological impact of these protocols and so by looking at individuals, transgender youth with and without histories of puberty suppression, we\u2019ll be able to better answer the types of questions that you\u2019re hoping,\u201d Tabak said, but did not say that the NIH would call for a cease to these \u201ctreatments\u201d which are proven to cause\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/abigailshrier.substack.com\/p\/not-a-kitchen-table-issue-jen-psaki?s=r\">sexual dysfunction, infertility, cardiac event[,] endometrial cancer<\/a>,\u201d and even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/sex-change-regret\/\">transition regret<\/a>\u00a0among people who receive them. <\/p>\n<p>Rubio said it is because those \u201clong-term implications\u201d are unknown right now and even Biden\u2019s FDA has not approved puberty blockers for struggling kids, that the Biden administration should pull back on its promotion of dangerous mutilation. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe clearly don\u2019t want anybody harming themselves and things of this nature but \u2026 these policy decisions are being made on the basis of observational guidance and by your own admission, without any sort of long-term trajectory on its holistic impact,\u201d Rubio said.<\/p>\n<p>Both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/hhs-ocr-notice-and-guidance-gender-affirming-care.pdf\">White House and Becerra<\/a> have signaled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-hhs-becerra-suggests-support-taxpayer-funded-gender-altering-procedures-children\">support for using taxpayer dollars<\/a>\u00a0to fund genital mutilation surgeries. The HHS\u2019s Office of Population Affairs\u00a0also recently <a href=\"https:\/\/opa.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-03\/gender-affirming-care-young-people-march-2022.pdf\">dangerously oversimplified<\/a>\u00a0the permanent and damaging effects that radical gender ideology, chemical castration, puberty blockers, and genital mutilation surgeries have on children and adults to promote them as \u201chealth care.\u201d <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
