Why build this out? One, I mean, the country\u2019s falling apart,\u201d Texas Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales, who will lead the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/17\/republican-latinos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">organization<\/a> with Florida Republican Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, said at a press conference about the HLT. \u201cDemocrat policies have failed time and time again. Hispanic communities have had enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re talking life-long Democrats that feel abandoned by this administration,\u201d Gonzales said. \u201cThat\u2019s not enough for them to come over to the Republican Party. We have to show up. And the Hispanic Leadership Trust reminds us of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HLT is combining investment &#038; mentorship to elect the most diverse freshman class yet. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Wv54IZWyeB\">pic.twitter.com\/Wv54IZWyeB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Paige Lindgren (@paigelindgren_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paigelindgren_\/status\/1526570555167715330?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gonzales said the HLT will focus on raising funds, creating resources for House GOP members, and \u201c[growing] in areas that we need\u201d as well as mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis weekend I had the privilege of going down to Weslaco and Harlingen, right, and campaigning with Mayra Flores,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was pretty damn hot this weekend. There were a lot of gnats out there, but we were able to canvas. We were able to talk to regular people, everyday people, and we were able to win them over by doing nothing other than showing up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what the Democratic Party is missing,\u201d Gonzales said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/21\/republicans-record-hispanics-new-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hispanic and Latino voters<\/a> have long voted for Democrats, but <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/25\/poll-hispanic-latino-voters-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent polling<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/04\/19\/record-number-hispanic-republicans-new-mexico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">record number<\/a> of Hispanic GOP House candidates suggest a potential realignment among the voter base.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are more than 103 Hispanic GOP candidates that have already filed to run. That number\u2019s just going to grow.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/12\/mccarthy-democrat-policies-officers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy<\/a> said at the press conference. \u201cThe Wall Street Journal poll found that Hispanic voters would back a Republican candidate over a Democrat by nine percentage points.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/11\/five-alarm-fire-democratic-party-wsj-poll-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED:\u00a0\u2018Five-Alarm Fire For The Democratic Party\u2019: New WSJ Poll Spells Doom For The Midterms)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Republican National Committee (RNC) opened centers in predominantly Hispanic communities throughout the country last fall, notably in McAllen and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2021\/10\/18\/republican-national-committee-opens-community-center-in-san-antonio-to-attract-more-hispanic-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Antonio, Texas,<\/a>\u00a0as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2021\/10\/17\/rnc-targets-south-texas-latinos-hispanic-community-centers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dora, Florida<\/a>, in an effort to register more voters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured-image relative\" data-fullscreen-image=\"\">\n<p>\u201cHispanics have a home in the Republican Party, and we look forward to welcoming the McAllen community as we work together to stop the Democrats\u2019 socialist agenda and defend the American dream,\u201d RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in October about the opening of the McAllen community center, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/575415-gop-opens-hispanic-community-center-in-border-town-as-part-of-latino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
