Together, they account for about 29 percent of global wheat exports, 19 percent of global corn supply, and 80 percent of global sunflower oil exports.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the irrigation systems in southeastern Ukraine have been bombed and ports have been cut off, Unanue noted. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/mariupol-ruined-port-city-that-russia-says-it-has-liberated-2022-04-21\/\">Mariupol<\/a>, a port on the Azov Sea, has already been cut off, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/live-updates-russia-ukraine-war-april-30-more-than-1-million-people-evacuated-from-ukraine-to-russia-says-lavrov_4437386.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">Odesa<\/a>, a Black Sea port, is the next target, he added. \u201cThat will landlock Ukraine and prevent them from exporting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The biggest component of food cost is transportation, so the current war on fossil fuels has made the United States no longer oil independent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShipping in a pipeline is free,\u201d he said. \u201cBut when you put it on a ship, with rates 10 times where they were two years ago, we are buying oil at retail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nitrogen-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-fertilizers\">fertilizers<\/a> are made from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertilizerseurope.com\/fertilizers-in-europe\/how-fertilizers-are-made\/\">natural gas<\/a>, so the war on fossil fuels and energy independence also impacts the cost of fertilizers, Unanue said.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO gave an example of coconut water, which his company imports from Thailand in bulk, to illustrate the impact of the surge in transportation costs.<\/p>\n<p>A case of coconut water used to cost $1.44, but now the cost per case has increased to $15 due to rising transportation expenditure, he said. \u201cThat\u2019s an inflation, a tenfold inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-goya\">Goya<\/a>\u2019s Humanitarian Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3430773\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-3430773 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/goya-products-1200x768-1.jpg\" alt=\"goya products\" width=\"640\" height=\"410\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3430773 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/goya-products-1200x768-1.jpg\" alt=\"goya products\" width=\"640\" height=\"410\" \/><\/noscript> This illustration photo taken on July 11, 2020, shows a selection of Goya food products in a Los Angeles supermarket. The company partnered with organizations and individuals such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kofcwi.org\/News\/articleType\/ArticleView\/articleId\/853\/The-Gift-of-Faith-at-Expanded-Mercy-Center\">Knights of Columbus of Poland<\/a>, Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), and <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/stocks\/ex-u-s-green-berets-carrying-rosaries-food-and-medicine-return-to-poland-carrying-rescued-ukranian-children-1031301634?op=1\">ex-U.S. green berets<\/a> who will distribute food donated by Goya from its European facility as well as rosaries donated by Americans, Unanue said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the ex-green berets are very courageous men, having gone into 40 cities in Ukraine with food and medicine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re there with nourishing the body, but we also want to nourish the soul,\u201d he said of the company\u2019s creed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod created humanity. But humanity has created the way to destroy itself\u2014nuclear, chemical, biological,\u201d Unanue said. \u201cNow we\u2019re using food as a weapon. We have to move closer to God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to love and build, not hate and destroy. (Chesapeake, Virginia Fire Department)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>With a food crisis looming, recent fires and other accidents that occurred at a multitude of food processing facilities within the last few months, raising concerns over yet another burden on an already vulnerable food industry.<\/p>\n<p>Unanue said that such incidents often occur due to deferring preventive maintenance of these facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
