Under the program, communities and local governments can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/briefing-room\/president-biden-and-us-transportation-secretary-pete-buttigieg-announce-availability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apply<\/a> for federal funding to &#8220;help them ensure\u00a0safe streets and roads for all and address the national roadway safety crisis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Examples of projects the Transportation Department identified as eligible for funding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/SS4A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">include<\/a>\u00a0the development of &#8220;bikeway networks with bicycle lanes,&#8221; speed cameras, and setting new speed limits.<\/p>\n<p>The multibillion-dollar investment comes as inflation is at a 40-year high, a situation some experts <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/policy\/even-obamas-fed-chairman-predicts-biden-stagflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">predict<\/a> will only get worse. The projects outlined under the program also disproportionately burden American car-drivers, a demographic that has already suffered this year as gas prices have reached <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/gas-prices-boomerang-to-record-highs-on-bidens-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">record highs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic administrations have a history of exorbitant spending on pro-bicycle policies. Under the Obama administration, the government spent $300,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/feds-spent-300000-studying-how-to-ride-bikes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">studying<\/a> &#8220;how humans interact with bicycles,&#8221; $27,500 on bicycle <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/nih-spent-27500-on-bicycle-subsidies-for-its-employees-in-2014\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subsidies<\/a> for employees of the National Institutes of Health, and nearly $50,000 on &#8220;elegant&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/nih-spent-47530-bicycle-shelters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bicycle shelters<\/a> at the headquarters of that same agency.
