More than a third (39%) said they \u201cnever\u201d wear a mask, while a quarter said they do \u201csome of the time.\u201d On the other side, 35% said they wear masks, with 19% saying \u201calways\u201d and 16% saying \u201cmost of the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And 53% said \u201cthe worst part of the pandemic is behind us,\u201d while just 15% said, \u201cthe pandemic is going to get worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 1,500 American adults, taken May 8-10, had some other interesting findings. A majority (57%) said inflation is a more serious problem than unemployment (8%). And 77% said America was \u201coff on the wrong track\u201d when it comes to inflation and prices, with just 10% saying the country is \u201cgenerally headed in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 84% said inflation is a \u201cvery serious\u201d or \u201csomewhat serious\u201d problem. And nearly half (47%) believe six months from now there will be a \u201chigher rate of inflation.\u201d And a majority (52%) think there will be \u201chigher gas prices\u201d than there are now.<\/p>\n<p>The poll findings come after President Joe Biden recently marked a grim milestone as the United States passed 1 million deaths of Americans who had contracted COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we mark a tragic milestone: one million American lives lost to COVID-19. One million empty chairs around the dinner table. Each an irreplaceable loss. Each leaving behind a family, a community, and a nation forever changed because of this pandemic. Jill and I pray for each of them,\u201d Biden said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/05\/12\/statement-from-president-joe-biden-marking-one-million-american-lives-lost-to-covid-19\/\">statement<\/a> released on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier last week, the Biden administration warned that the U.S. could see as many as 100 million COVID-19 infections this fall and winter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe projection of 100 million potential infections is an estimate based on a range of outside models that are being closely tracked by the administration and would include both the fall and winter, a senior administration official told CNN,\u201d the network <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/06\/politics\/white-house-covid-fall-wave\/index.html\">reported<\/a>. \u201cOfficials say this estimate is based on an underlying assumption of no additional resources or extra mitigation measures being taken, including new Covid-19 funding from Congress, or dramatic new variants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Curl has covered politics for 35 years, including 12 years as White House correspondent for a national newspaper.
