Lindsey Graham and Connecticut Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal that called for Russia to be listed as a state sponsor of terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution urged Secretary of State Antony Blinken to add the designation to Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. currently lists only four nations as state sponsors of terror. The nations include Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast week the Ukrainian government took a vote urging the U.S. Congress to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. So we heard their plea and we\u2019re answering their request,\u201d Graham\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?520119-1\/senators-graham-blumenthal-news-conference-war-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0during Tuesday\u2019s press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should be all-in in making sure that Putin is marginalized and his country is marginalized as long as his country is engaged in the matter that they are engaging in,\u201d he added during the press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Senate \u2014 views the actions of the Government of the Russian Federation, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, as acts of terrorism,\u201d the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgraham.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/5496358a-cb7d-43c4-ad73-34866ec00e87\/sst-resolution.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0resolution<\/a>\u00a0noted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Full text of the Graham-Blumenthal resolution calling for designation of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism \ud83d\udd3d\ud83d\udd3d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s0nEqRhxfm\">pic.twitter.com\/s0nEqRhxfm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Toby Douthat (@tobydouthat) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tobydouthat\/status\/1524063085383884801?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Senate majority leader also emphasized to Zelensky during their Saturday visit that he expects to pass a $40 billion package of additional aid to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I assured him \u2014 as this is an all-Republican delegation \u2014 is that support for Ukraine and this war against the Russians is bipartisan,\u201d McConnell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-05-15\/mcconnell-sees-swift-ukraine-aid-passage-backs-nato-expansion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>, adding that the support includes \u201can overwhelming majority of Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have always been isolationist voices in the Republican Party,\u201d McConnell added. \u201cI think one of the lessons we learned in World War II is not standing up to aggression early is a huge mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the majority of Republicans have supported the additional aid for Ukraine, some GOP members have decided not to rush forward with the additional package.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul took to Twitter to express his concerns with additional support to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy oath of office is to the U.S. Constitution, not to any foreign nation. Andy Biggs said last week, \u201cI\u2019m voting against tonight\u2019s reckless $40B Ukraine spending bill. Pelosi rushed the bill to the House floor without hearings or time for members to adequately review the bill.
