Claudia Tenney strongly criticized pro-abortion rights protestors for demonstrating at the private homes of Supreme Court justices, drawing on her own experiences as the daughter of a judge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad was a judge in the New York State Supreme Court \u2026 for 35 years,\u201d she told The Daily Wire, referring to the late John R. Tenney, <a href=\"https:\/\/tenney.house.gov\/about\">who served as a justice<\/a> for the Supreme Court of New York between\u00a01969 and 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Though protestors did not show up at their home, she said \u201ca\u00a0lot of people threatened his life, called our house, threatened the lives of our family.\u201d\u00a0Tenney also said the protests strike a chord with her since she used to deal with similar demonstrations at her private residence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s personal to me, because they used to come, when I was the candidate for Congress, and be outside of my house watching me,\u201d she said, referring to her 2018 campaign. Tenney said protestors critical of Republicans and former President Donald Trump would come up her dead-end street and videotape her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo go to my home where I am home alone with my dog, or I might be home with my family, I just think it\u2019s crossing the line,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Her comments come\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/amy-coney-barretts-neighbor-has-a-message-for-pro-abortion-handmaids-demonstrating-at-her-house\">amid demonstrations<\/a> in front of the private residences of Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, John Roberts, and Samuel Alito over the past week since the leak of a\u00a0draft Supreme Court opinion showing that the court is likely preparing to overturn\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman, who <a href=\"https:\/\/tenney.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/tenney-leads-letter-ag-garland-calling-enforcement-law-and-action-against\">led her colleagues<\/a> in calling on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to enforce the law against the protestors seeking to intimidate the justices, emphasized that the demonstrations are \u201creally serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/11\/garland-directs-us-marshals-to-ensure-supreme-court-justices-safety-after-abortion-draft.html\">finally directed<\/a>\u00a0the U.S. Marshals Service to \u201chelp ensure\u201d the safety of Supreme Court justices on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re disrupting and trying to influence the deliberation process of the U.S. Supreme Court,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0one thing to show up at the Supreme Court and express your First Amendment views \u2026 but to go to someone\u2019s house, especially a mother of seven, and to try to intimidate or do this to her at her home, I think is inappropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York Republican was referring to the Wednesday evening protest in front of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett\u2019s home, in which a\u00a0small group of pro-abortion rights protestors dressed as handmaids <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/amy-coney-barretts-neighbor-has-a-message-for-pro-abortion-handmaids-demonstrating-at-her-house\">demonstrated<\/a>\u00a0by walking around her cul-de-sac with signs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just inappropriate to be harassing them at their house,\u201d she said of the protestors, suggesting that outside the Supreme Court is a much more suitable place for peaceful protest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobust debate is is what we want,\u201d she added, \u201cnot intimidation and this type of thing that\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing more democratic than the court sending a decision that was politically made back to the states, back to us to discuss and for the people and the states to decide,\u201d she continued, pointing to the fact that if <em>Roe<\/em> is overturned, the power to decide abortion laws will return to the states.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court justices met privately on Thursday for the first time since the leaked draft opinion shook the nation, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abortion-us-supreme-court-amy-coney-barrett-john-roberts-299fafc4818a63b34bcfaba75f54df4a\">according to the Associated Press<\/a>.\u00a0The justices revealed that at least one decision will be announced on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\">broke the news<\/a>\u00a0May 2 that the Supreme Court had seemingly voted to strike down the landmark decision, reporting that Justice Samuel Alito had written an opinion draft that is an \u201cunflinching repudiation\u201d of\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The draft majority opinion, which is not final, says <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was egregiously wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hold that <i>Roe<\/i> and <i>Casey<\/i> must be overruled,\u201d Justice Samuel Alito wrote.\u00a0\u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 Republican New York Rep.
