There is no evidence Forbes published such a story.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>China banned all crypto transactions and mining in September 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/china-central-bank-vows-crackdown-cryptocurrency-trading-2021-09-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a> reported. Now, an image shared on Facebook claims the country is creating its own cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook image shows what appears to be a screenshot of a Forbes article titled, \u201cChina Launches Official Cryptocurrency: World Banks And Governments Terrified.\u201d The article goes on to state that large banking institutions were concerned about the \u201cunprecedented\u201d move.<\/p>\n<p>The article was not published by Forbes, however. It does not appear on the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/search\/?q=china%20launches%20own%20cryptocurrency&#038;sort=recent&#038;sh=68f7ca29279f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forbes website<\/a> nor does the tagged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/search\/?q=shen%20wei&#038;sort=recent&#038;sh=68f7ca29279f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">journalist<\/a> appear to work for the outlet. There is likewise no trace of the article on the outlet\u2019s verified <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=china%20launches%20cryptocurrency%20(from%3Aforbes)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/30911162508\/search\/?q=china%20launches%20official%20cryptocurrency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> pages.<\/p>\n<p>A keyword search revealed the article was published by the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sircles.net\/Downloads\/forbes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sircles.net<\/a>, which uses the Forbes header and format despite having no connection to the real Forbes. All the links included in the article bring the reader to a website that encourages them to invest in cryptocurrencies, primarily Bitcoin. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/06\/24\/fact-check-mcdonalds-tweet-wouldnt-hire-people-traded-cryptocurrencies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did McDonald\u2019s Send A Tweet Saying It Wouldn\u2019t Hire People Who Have Traded Cryptocurrencies?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>China has been working on developing a digital version of its currency since 2014, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/01\/04\/china-launches-digital-currency-app-to-expand-usage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>.
