Greg Abbott, and the DFPS began <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/02\/texas-investigate-transgender-parent-child-abuse-greg-abbott\/\">investigations<\/a> of families for potential child abuse over treatments their transgender children were receiving in February. An appeals court had previously blocked these inquiries throughout the state, but the Texas Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.txcourts.gov\/media\/1454197\/220229.pdf\">ruled<\/a> the lower court had \u201cabused its discretion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Friday ruling determined that DFPS investigations against the family and doctor who had brought the suit could not continue and said the investigation could cause \u201cirreparable harm.\u201d The court ruled Abbott and Paxton lacked statutory authority to have ordered these investigations, but that other investigations could proceed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Texas Attorney General: \u201cThere is no doubt\u201d that gender transition of minors is \u2018child abuse\u2019 under Texas law.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Dept. of Family &#038; Protective Services will enforce this ruling and investigate &#038; refer for prosecution any such abuse.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hZQguNOiye\">https:\/\/t.co\/hZQguNOiye<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GregAbbott_TX\/status\/1496114209238794247?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 22, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The fight over classifying child sex changes as child abuse has stretched out for months in Texas, where five district attorneys <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/25\/texas-district-attorney-sex-change-surgery-children-abuse-greg-abbott-executive-order\/\">refused<\/a> to follow Abbott\u2019s executive order to prosecute these crimes in February. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/09\/alabama-sex-change-transgender-children-aclu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Child Sex Change Treatments Are A Hill Some LGBT Activists Are Willing To Die On)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubjecting a child to genital mutilation through reassignment surgery creates a \u2018genuine threat of substantial harm from physical injury to the child,\u2019\u201d Abbot <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/06\/greg-abbott-texas-department-family-protective-services-trans-surgeries-kids\/\">wrote<\/a> in August. \u201cThis broad definition of \u2018abuse\u2019 should cover a surgical procedure that will sterilize the child, such as orchiectomy or hysterectomy, or remove otherwise healthy body parts, such as penectomy or mastectomy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s office did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
