Thank you, colleagues,\u201d Democratic California State Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Scott_Wiener\/status\/1522311470679158784?s=20&#038;t=bK_Z9JamCPecSIZmuOcVuA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Weiner<\/a>, who authored the bill, tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Our legislation to allow teens to protect their own health by getting vaccinated (SB 866) just passed the Senate. Thank you, colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Scott Wiener (@Scott_Wiener) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Scott_Wiener\/status\/1524796372729225225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 12, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYoung people 12 and over are already allowed to make critical decisions about their bodies without parental consent, including getting the human papilloma virus (HPV) and hepatitis B vaccines, accessing reproductive health care and mental health care, and other health services,\u201d Weiner said in a statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcbayarea.com\/news\/local\/san-francisco\/bill-allowing-teens-to-get-vaccinated-without-parental-consent-passes-senate\/2889237\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC Bay Area<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/05\/fda-johnson-vaccine-blood-clot-pause-recommendation-side-effects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: FDA Drastically Reduces Use Of Johnson &#038; Johnson Vaccine Over Blood Clots)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The legislation now heads to the State Assembly where it will be heard in committee hearings, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The bill has faced pushback from parents and others, with one woman saying during a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing the bill was \u201cdemonic,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/calmatters.org\/newsletters\/whatmatters\/2022\/05\/youth-vaccine-covid-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CalMatters<\/a>. Several opponents reportedly said the opposed the legislation because their kids had been \u201cvaccine-injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One woman, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/mom-says-son-vaccinated-in-exchange-for-pizza-at-lausd-without-her-consent\/2773619\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maribel Duarte<\/a>, claimed her son is experiencing side-effects of the vaccine after he was vaccinated by his school without her consent, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel that in that age, they still don\u2019t have that mentality or rightness to choose if they\u2019re OK or healthy enough to make that decision,\u201d Duarte reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p>Similar legislation was passed in Washington, D.C., in 2020 that allowed children 11 and older to get vaccinated without their parents\u2019 consent if a doctor determined the child was capable of making an informed decision.
