Andy Biggs and Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry saying they won\u2019t comply.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is attempting to compel testimony from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, Biggs and Perry about their alleged interactions with former President Donald Trump, members of the Justice Department, and planners of the Jan. 6 \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally. Brooks has publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/23\/trump-withdraws-endorsement-mo-brooks\/\">spoken<\/a> about his interactions with Trump both before and after the riot, and leaked audio tapes revealed that McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/22\/kevin-mccarthy-encourage-donald-trump-resign-january-6\/\">discussed<\/a> Trump\u2019s removal from office through either resignation or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/04\/politics\/mccarthy-audio-25th-amendment-biden\/index.html\">25th Amendment<\/a> with members of his leadership team.<\/p>\n<p>Perry called out the committee for publishing a <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/select-committee-subpoenas-five-members-congress\">press release<\/a> detailing the subpoenas before serving individual members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">That this illegitimate body leaked their latest charade to the media ahead of contacting targeted Members is proof positive once again that this political witch hunt is about fabricating headlines and distracting the Americans from their abysmal record of running America into the ground,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/henryrodgersdc\/status\/1524814975591653376\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s actions by the Jan. 6 committee are pure political theater,\u201d Biggs <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/henryrodgersdc\/status\/1524841933092311058?s=21&#038;t=zyIMWMTszWwaQoXaNaW5tQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> the Daily Caller in a statement. \u201cThe subpoenas and news of their issuance were leaked to the media before the impacted Members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Jan. 6 Committee\u2019s ongoing, baseless witch hunt is nothing more than an effort to distract the American people from the Democrats\u2019 and Biden\u2019s disastrous leadership,\u201d he added. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/trump-january-6-riot-meadows-bannon\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Jan. 6 Committee Issues First Subpoenas To Four Trump Aides, Allies)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brooks, McCarthy, and Jordan did not respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Refusing to sit for interviews could leave Biggs and Perry open to contempt of Congress charges. The full House of Representatives has already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/28\/jan-6-committee-thomas-trump\/\">voted<\/a> to hold several Trump allies, including former chief strategist Steve <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/house-vote-steve-bannon-contempt-justice-department-criminal-charges\/\">Bannon<\/a> and former Chief of Staff Mark <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/14\/house-votes-hold-mark-meadows-criminal-contempt-congress\/\">Meadows<\/a>, in contempt. Bennie Thompson said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore we hold our hearings next month, we wished to provide members the opportunity to discuss these matters with the committee voluntarily. Regrettably, the individuals receiving subpoenas today have refused and we\u2019re forced to take this step to help ensure the committee uncovers facts concerning January 6th. We urge our colleagues to comply with the law, do their patriotic duty, and cooperate with our investigation as hundreds of other witnesses have done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have pledged to shut the committee down should they take back the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections.
