Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The justices met privately on Thursday for the first time since the leaked draft opinion shook the nation, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abortion-us-supreme-court-amy-coney-barrett-john-roberts-299fafc4818a63b34bcfaba75f54df4a\">according to the Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though the justices did not give any indication about what they discussed in the private conference, the publication reported, they did reveal that on Monday, at least one decision will be announced. SCOTUSblog also noted that \u201cone or more\u201d decisions would be released on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>There are 37 unresolved cases that have been argued in the fall, winter, and spring, according to the AP, noting that the justices usually have issued all their decisions by the beginning of the summer.<\/p>\n<p>During a question and answer session Thursday night with George Mason University\u2019s law students at the Antonin Scalia Law School, Justice Samuel Alito avoided addressing the court\u2019s mood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-69 Component-p-0-2-60\">\u201cThe court right now, we had our conference this morning, we\u2019re doing our work,\u201d Alito said, <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/12\/samuel-alito-roe-wade-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post reported<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re taking new cases; we\u2019re headed toward the end of the term, which is always a frenetic time as we get our opinions out.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEW: Next Monday will be a Supreme Court opinion day. Wade<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The draft majority opinion, which is not final, says <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was egregiously wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hold that <i>Roe<\/i> and <i>Casey<\/i> must be overruled,\u201d Justice Samuel Alito wrote.\u00a0\u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the leak of the draft opinion last Monday, conservative activists and legal experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/conservatives-legal-experts-call-for-justices-to-release-roe-v-wade-decision\">quickly called<\/a> for the Supreme Court to release its decision on<em> Dobbs vs. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously no one can actually force the Chief Justice\u2019s hand,\u201d Judicial Crisis Network\u2019s Carrie Severino told The Daily Wire last week, \u201cbut he may want to release the opinion early to avoid exposing the Court to further pressure and intimidation tactics that risk undermining the Court as an institution as a result of the draft opinion hanging out there for what could be months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The unprecedented leak has sent shockwaves throughout Washington, with many commentators noting that a draft decision has never been publicly released in the modern history of the court.<\/p>\n<p>On May 3, Chief Justice John Roberts\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/justice-roberts-abortion-leak-da48f1b2-087f-4a43-b037-068be226ce2c.html?stream=top&#038;utm_source=alert&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=alerts_all\">released<\/a>\u00a0a statement confirming that the draft document is real, but emphasizing that it did not represent the Supreme Court\u2019s final decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe at the Court are blessed to have a workforce \u2014 permanent employees and law clerks alike \u2014 intensely loyal to the institution and dedicated to the rule of law,\u201d the chief justice said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here,\u201d he added, noting that he has \u201cdirected the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court will be releasing \u201cone or more\u201d opinions on Monday amid tensions over a leaked draft opinion indicating that justices may have decided to overturn Roe v.
