But Friday morning\u2019s development, which Musk characterized as \u201ctemporary,\u201d threw the controversial takeover into a new round of uncertainty. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/TWTR.N\">Twitter shares<\/a> fell 25% in pre-market trading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam\/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users,\u201d Musk tweeted early Friday morning.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam\/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y2t0QMuuyn\">https:\/\/t.co\/Y2t0QMuuyn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1525049369552048129?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Musk has vowed to clean up spam accounts on Twitter by \u201cdefeating the spam bots.\u201d The company has long been plagued by fake accounts set up to post automated content, some of which has been deemed misinformation. The company earlier this month\u00a0that fake accounts made up fewer than 5% of its daily active users during the first quarter of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of the deal, if either Twitter or Musk back out for any reason, they owe the other side a $1 billion termination fee.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, word came out of the company that two of its top leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/it-begins-heads-start-to-roll-at-twitter-as-two-top-leaders-at-company-out\">have been ousted<\/a> as the social media platform begins to make changes ahead of Musk\u2019s expected arrival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKayvon Beykpour, Twitter\u2019s general manager, is leaving and will be replaced by Jay Sullivan,\u201d The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/12\/technology\/twitter-elon-musk.html\">reported<\/a>, citing a company memo. \u201cMr. Sullivan is currently the interim general manager of the consumer product.
