Jim Jordan blasted the Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, saying in an interview that he views it as an illegitimate campaign tool for House Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The committee <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/12\/jan-6-committee-subpoenas-five-house-republicans\/\">issued<\/a> subpoenas to Jordan, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry, and Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs earlier in the day. Committee chairman Bennie Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi, cited their refusal to voluntarily sit for interviews about alleged interactions with former President Donald Trump, Justice Department officials, and organizers of the \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally. Jordan has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/04\/politics\/jim-jordan-trump-january-6\/index.html\">confirmed<\/a> that he spoke with Trump \u201ca number of times\u201d on Jan. 6, 2021. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/28\/select-committee-capitol-riot-subpoenas-jim-jordan-scott-perry-pelosi\/\">(RELATED: Pelosi\u2019s Jan. 6 Team Plots Next Move Ahead Of 2022 Midterms)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t even got it yet,\u201d Jordan told WMAL host and Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese in a Thursday interview. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing that the press has it, and they\u2019re talking about it, but we have yet to get that. So I want to read it. We sent a letter in early January where we outlined our concerns about this committee, this, I think, totally partisan, political committee. And frankly, none of our concerns have changed. Frankly, we have more of them now, one of which is that they leaked it to the press, had this all set up with the press before we\u2019ve even seen the subpoena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jordan was one of five Republican members McCarthy attempted to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/21\/nancy-pelosi-rejects-two-republicans-january-6-select-committee-jim-jordan-jim-banks-capitol-riot\/\">appoint<\/a> to the committee in July 2021. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi rejected his appointment, saying that she was concerned about his \u201cimpact\u2026 on the integrity of the investigation.\u201d McCarthy then decided to pull all five Republican-appointed members from the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger and Wyoming Rep. (Photo by OLIVIER DOULIERY\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll take a look at the subpoena, but the concerns we laid out in the January letter are still valid and true and frankly, there\u2019s even more concerns that we have,\u201d Jordan explained.<\/p>\n<p>If Jordan and the other lawmakers do not comply with the subpoenas, they could face contempt of Congress charges. Former Trump aides Mark <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/14\/house-votes-hold-mark-meadows-criminal-contempt-congress\/\">Meadows<\/a> and Steve <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/house-vote-steve-bannon-contempt-justice-department-criminal-charges\/\">Bannon<\/a> were both charged after chamber-wide votes. Other individuals who received subpoenas, including lawyer John <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/12\/03\/eastman-takes-the-fifth-with-jan-6-committee-523712\">Eastman<\/a>, cited their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination to avoid testifying.<\/p>\n<p>Coglianese claimed that the committee was \u201cmaking communications of any kind with the president of the U.S. into some kind of criminal act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the same administration that thinks there needs to be a disinformation board,\u201d Jordan responded. \u201cThis is the same administration that\u2019s doing that, and I don\u2019t think we should be surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else are they going to talk about? They\u2019re going to talk about the 41-year high inflation rate. They\u2019re going to talk about the fact that they\u2019re intentionally getting rid of our southern border,\u201d Jordan continued. \u201cThey\u2019re going to talk about $4.46 for a gallon of gas.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Ohio Rep.
