Henry Ceullar during her weekly press conference on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a valued member of our caucus,\u201d Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/minutes\/congress\/05-12-2022\/pelosi-vouches-for-cuellar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> of the Texas Democrat. \u201cHe is not pro-choice. But we do need him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuellar garnered just 48% of his district\u2019s primary vote in March, forcing a runoff election against progressive Democrat Jessica Cisneros on May 24.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Party will also face a runoff between its two top candidates in the district. Cassy Garcia, a former staff member of Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, garnered just over 23% of the primary vote. Republican Sandra Whitten was second, with 18% of the district\u2019s GOP vote.<\/p>\n<p>Cuellar faced controversy after the FBI raided his home in January over a potential investigation. He was reportedly not the focus of the investigation and has not faced charges.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Cuellar has been vocal in his criticisms of the White House regarding the Biden administration\u2019s border policies that have impacted his district.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Cuellar\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-top-democrat-pushes-back-on-claim-that-border-patrol-agent-swung-whip-while-charging-horse-toward-haitian-migrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed back<\/a>\u00a0against criticism of U.S. Border Patrol agents who rode on horseback to force Haitian asylum seekers out of Del Rio, Texas, in July.<\/p>\n<p>Most Democrats continue to support Cuellar despite the concerns. Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) have now all endorsed Cuellar, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>Hoyer\u2019s words expressed even stronger support for Cuellar on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, we\u2019re a diverse party. We have diverse opinions,\u201d Hoyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/nancy-pelosi-backing-anti-abortion-henry-cuellar-supreme-court-2022-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cOur platform says that we\u2019re the pro-choice party, and we are the pro-choice party. That does not mean that there\u2019s not room in our party for alternative voices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is promoting Cisneros in the upcoming runoff election for the state\u2019s 28th District.<\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman said \u201chis challenger has a real shot, but needs help.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">And his challenger has a real shot, but needs help. Support <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JCisnerosTX?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JCisnerosTX<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RoABlGuFGW\">https:\/\/t.co\/RoABlGuFGW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1521515760484503560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cToday, we proved just how powerful our movement is and are ready to keep fighting for the future we deserve,\u201d Cisneros said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/03\/02\/henry-cuellar-jessica-cisneros-texas-primary-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>\u00a0following the primary. \u201cTogether, we will take control back from Big Oil, private prisons, and Wall Street, and put it back where it belongs: with the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cisneros has repeatedly emphasized her support of \u201creproductive health care\u201d in her battle against Cuellar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Today, Henry Cuellar was the only Democrat to vote against protecting human rights,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JCisnerosTX\/status\/1441438041562746899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>, regarding his vote against a House abortion bill. \u201cHis vote against\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">#WHPA<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u00a0is a vote against reproductive health care for all South Texans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Last week during an interview on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press,\u201d Cisneros said her opponent might become \u201cthe Joe Manchin of the House\u201d over his pro-life stance.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">ICYMI: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JCisnerosTX?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JCisnerosTX<\/a> says her Democratic opponent, Rep.
