The department scrapped two other leases in the Gulf of Mexico, saying it would cancel them because of &#8220;conflicting court rulings.&#8221; In addition, the Biden administration plans to let all other offshore drilling leases expire next month.<\/p>\n<p>The cancellation makes good on promises Biden made during his campaign to halt U.S. oil drilling during his presidency.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No more subsidies for the fossil fuel industry,&#8221; Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/elections\/biden-promises-no-more-drilling-under-his-presidency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> at the CNN in March 2020. &#8220;No more drilling on federal lands. No more drilling, including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period. Ends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gas prices on Tuesday shot back up to record highs, with the national average price for regular unleaded gas at $4.37, <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to AAA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Macchiarola, a senior vice president at the American Petroleum Institute, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-alaska-oil-gas-lease-sale-canceled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CBS News the decision was &#8220;another example of the administration&#8217;s lack of commitment to oil and gas development in the U.S.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, this is becoming a pattern\u2014the administration talks about the need for more supply and acts to restrict it,&#8221; Macchiarola added.<\/p>\n<p>In January, the Department of the Interior <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/biden-admin-to-reduce-oil-leasing-in-alaska\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">banned oil and gas leasing<\/a> on 11 million acres of Alaska&#8217;s North Slope.
