According to AAA travel agency\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">tracker<\/a>, gas prices reached new milestone Wednesday, at a nationwide average of $4.40 a gallon of regular unleaded and $5.55 for diesel. The prior record for unleaded was set in March, at an average $4.33 per gallon regular, and diesel at $5.54. The latest inflation numbers also out Wednesday revealed all prices still rising at a rapid pace of 8.3 percent annually, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/april-2022-consumer-price-index-inflation\">exceeding expectations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t want to get hit by Republicans in light of high gas prices,\u201d explained an \u201cenvironmental advocate\u201d to CBS granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive topic related to White House discretion on the leases. \u201cThey\u2019re getting killed on attacks based on inflation. The most visible sign of inflation is high gas prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Biden has blamed Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine for the continued price hikes, the trends began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/putins-price-hike-began-long-before-russian-invasion-of-ukraine-data-show\">long before<\/a> President Vladimir Putin launched his February invasion, and analysts say it\u2019s clear that Biden is making things worse by banning companies from exploring sources of U.S. energy independence.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s administration only <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/21\/why-bidens-court-ordered-resumption-of-oil-and-gas-leases-wont-bring-down-prices\/\">resumed<\/a> oil and gas leases on federal lands last month after a federal court ordered the government to do so following a 15-month suspension. The Department of Interior, however, offered only 20 percent of the lands initially nominated for oil and gas leases, complemented by a 50 percent spike in royalties from what\u2019s extracted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden remains absolutely committed to not moving forward with additional drilling on public lands,\u201d White House climate adviser Gina McCarthy pledged on MSNBC.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>The administration\u2019s relentless animosity towards fossil fuels, showcased in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/press-release\/following-january-announcement-bureau-land-management-issues-record-decision-national\">repeated<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/14\/bidens-decision-to-stop-the-keystone-pipeline-absolutely-hiked-gas-prices\/\">cancelation<\/a> of oil and gas projects, has chilled investment in the capital- and labor-intensive industry. This keeps production down despite rising demand at home and turmoil in markets abroad.<\/p>\n<p>In Alaska, upon inauguration Biden canceled leases in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/04\/for-the-sake-of-national-security-we-must-reopen-the-alaska-national-wildlife-refuge\/\">Arctic National Wildlife Refuge<\/a>, which is forecast to hold between 4 to 12 billion barrels of recoverable oil. He <a href=\"https:\/\/powerthefuture.com\/haalands-parting-gift-to-alaska-locking-up-the-states-national-petroleum-reserve\/\">closed<\/a> another 7 million acres from the state\u2019s National Petroleum Reserve off from development last month.<\/p>\n<p>The president has <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/01\/joe-biden-is-doing-everything-possible-to-avoid-unleashing-american-energy-production\/\">turned<\/a> to the nation\u2019s emergency petroleum reserves for desperate political capital ahead of the November midterms. Voters antagonized by high gas prices, which also increase the cost of just about everything, will head to the polls in an already historically hostile election cycle to the president\u2019s party in power.
