Catholic is letting their religious doctrine interfere with their ability to write sound legal doctrine. It\u2019s also possible that the fact that she is an adoptive mother is influencing her inability to see what it\u2019s like to carry a pregnancy to term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, she\u2019s had five kids by herself,\u201d the reporter pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>Cornered, the activist switched gears: \u201cNot everybody wants to have five kids or four kids or one kid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot all Catholics are anti-choice,\u201d the activist pronounced, ignoring the distinction between Catholics who observe traditional Catholic doctrine and those who don\u2019t. \u201cSo it would make no sense to protest an entire religion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain, nobody should be ashamed of their religion, nobody should not be Catholic,\u201d she patronized.<\/p>\n<p>Another woman carrying a sign reading \u201cKeep your rosaries off my ovaries\u201d chimed in, \u201cWe have no issue with Catholicism. However in this country, there\u2019s a separation of church and state. One of Barrett\u2019s neighbors told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/justice-barrett-mom-5-doesnt-know-full-term-pregnancy-handmaid-protester\">Fox News<\/a> that the Barretts were \u201cscared, and they wanted prayers,\u201d adding, \u201cThe whole neighborhood\u2019s been supportive of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel L. Dreisbach, the author of \u201cThomas Jefferson and the Wall of Separation Between Church and State,\u201d has explained in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/political-process\/report\/the-mythical-wall-separation-how-misused-metaphor-changed-church-state-law\">comprehensive essay<\/a> that the famed \u201cwall of separation\u201d between church and state cited in the 1947 case\u00a0<em>Everson v. Board of\u00a0Education <\/em>was a stretch from the original intent of President Thomas Jefferson\u2019s use of the phrase in his 1802 letter to the Baptist Association of Danbury, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout his public career, including two terms as President, Jefferson pursued policies incompatible with the \u2018high and impregnable\u2019 wall the modern Supreme Court has erroneously attributed to him,\u201d Dreisbach noted. \u201cFor example, he endorsed the use of federal funds to build churches and to support Christian missionaries working among the Indians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJefferson\u2019s wall, as a matter of federalism, was erected between the national and state governments on matters pertaining to religion and not, more generally, between the church and\u00a0<em>all<\/em>\u00a0civil government,\u201d Dreisbach continued. \u201cIn other words, Jefferson placed the federal government on one side of his wall and state governments and churches on the other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe differences between the two walls are suggested by Jefferson\u2019s record as a public official in both Virginia and the nation, which shows that he initiated practices and implemented policies inconsistent with Justice Black\u2019s and the modern Supreme Court\u2019s \u2018high and impregnable\u2019 wall of separation,\u201d Dreisbach stated.<\/p>\n<p>Pointing out that Jefferson\u2019s use of the phrase was metaphorical, Dreisbach concluded, \u201cThe wall is politically divisive.
