The Bank of England has made no announcement about the alleged appointment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rajan served as the International Monetary Fund\u2019s chief economist and director of research from 2003 to 2006 as well as the Reserve Bank of India\u2019s governor from 2013 to 2016, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/faculty\/directory\/r\/raghuram-g-rajan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Chicago<\/a>. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/-\/media\/faculty\/raghuram-rajan\/vitae\/cv.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">joined<\/a> the university\u2019s Booth School in 2016 as a distinguished professor of finance.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post says Rajan has now been \u201cappointed as the Governor of Bank of England.\u201d A May 8 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WILBRODSOUZA\/status\/1523338933249077248\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweet<\/a> congratulating him for the supposed appointment received over 2,000 likes. Neither posts cite a source for the claim. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/06\/15\/fact-check-images-boy-stole-75-billion-swiss-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Image Claims To Show Young Boy Who Stole $75 Billion From A Swiss Bank)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence that Rajan has been appointed to the position. The Bank of England, the U.K.\u2019s central bank, has not announced such a move in any of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%22Raghuram%20Rajan%22%20(from%3Abankofengland)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064809906160\/search\/?q=%22Raghuram%20Rajan%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posts<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchicago.edu\/search?#gsc.q=Rajan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Chicago<\/a> has also not made any announcement about Rajan joining the bank.<\/p>\n<p>The bank\u2019s current governor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/about\/people\/andrew-bailey\/biography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Bailey<\/a>, is expected to serve until his term expires in 2028, according to the bank\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/about\/people\/andrew-bailey\/biography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>.
